Tickets to many MSU sporting events are in high demand and well attended. This leads to individuals illegally selling tickets at highly inflated prices near the event.
Unique Suggestions: If you must buy tickets from a scalper, only offer up to 50% over the face value of the tickets. They may try to bring you up but refuse and eventually you'll get the ticket at a close to fair price.
Fun Alternatives: Buy your ticekts ahead of time. Park only in university lots or at one of the churches on Harrison that are selling parking.

You won't find many tourist traps in East Lansing because most of the tourists are Michigan residents, in town for a conference, to visit children at MSU or alumni of the university who won't put up with "a bad deal." Most recreation opportunities and museums are free or very low price to attract a college age population.
