The Detroit River is listed as one of the Top 10 Walleye waters by several sources. You can fish either from a boat or from the shore all along the Detroit River and Lake Erie from Detroit City all the way to the Ohio Border!
You can catch Smallmouth, Largemouth, Walleye, Perch, Sunfish and even and occasional Pike!
Equipment: SUMMER- Lite to medium action casting or spinning gear. A jighead tipped with a 3" brightly colored grub or worm usually works as does a crankbait (had good luck with Rapala or Bill Norman N series). All should be chatruese, white or firetiger, as the waters are very murky.
WINTER- Ice tackle. Usually a teardrop jig tipped with a bit of worm or grub does the trick. You can also rig up a small minnow. Again, bright colors work best.
There are 2 steelhead runs each year at the Huroc Park on the Huron River. Spring run is around March and fall run is around Sept-Oct.
Equipment: Use spawn sacs and BB shot for best results with light casting tackle or a fly rod!
Local drivers come to compete in short track Nascar-like racing every Saturday night. There is also figure 8 racing with the older 80's sportscars.
Equipment: A chair cushion, your favorite Nascar shirt and a 6 pack of beer.
