Flat Rock Things to Do

  • Antique Buildings

There are antique buildings all over the town, especially on Gibralter Road and down near the river, across from Huroc Park. They have relocated some of the oldest buildings into a park area behind the library on Gibralter Road, including the original General Store, which has been converted into a historical museum!

  • Huroc Park

The Huron River runs right through Huroc Park, which has walking trails, picnic areas, fishing and playgrounds for the kids. There is a large gazeebo near the river that would be perfect for small, intimate outdoor weddings. There are squirrels, and many birds in the park as well as bass, steelhead (seasonal) and other gamefish in the river. There is a reason it's nicknamed Whorelan's

Underage girls with fake ID's and spandex mini skirts and thirtysomething loosers. This place is all washed up and Tootsie Roll is still their number one hit.

Dress Code: Whatever you would see on a street corner in any major city...

Whatever you do, DO NOT SPEED ON GIBRALTER ROAD!!!

The speed limit is a cumbersome 25 miles an hour, and the police station is right there in the middle of it all. You will get pulled over for even 5 miles over, especially with out of state tags.

It sure does stink travelling this road every morning, on my way to I-75, for work...

  • We Don't Even Have A Grocery Store!

When I first moved to Flat Rock, we had a K-Mart and a FoodTown on Telegraph Road, which was the closest thing to a shopping center we had, until FoodTown closed it's doors about a year and a half ago, and we all know of K-Mart's demise...The closest Grocery store is either Kroger in Gibralter, which is in a strip mall with Blockbuster, Cottage Inn...

If you wish to fit in with the locals, sweatpants or sweat shorts and a stained tank top or tee shirt should do for summer (preferrably with a hunting or nascar theme on it), and a carhartt coat and overalls with a camo baseball cap for winter. YEEHAW!!!

Snow pants aren't even a bad idea! Snow boots are a must! If you are driving make sure you have an emergency kit in the trunk with a shovel, sand or kitty...

There are days it is very windy, and lately it has rained almost daily. On the reverse note, be sure to...
