Great City, lots of fun
Favorite thing: Grand Rapids is a pretty cold place in the winter, but in the summer its just hopping with things to do outdoors. Being born and raised in Grand Rapids I know where to have fun. One of the best things to do in the summer is go to "Blues on the mall" Its a fun blues concert in the heart of grand rapids every wed. afternoon. And its FREE!
Fondest memory: When I left for a year to move to california I miss how beautiful the city looks at night with the bridges all lit up and the river reflects the light off the bridges, it looks so romantic.

Riverside Parks and Plazas
Favorite thing: Once you arrive in downtown Grand Rapids, all the interesting sites are within a short walk of one another. Parking is available either in inexpensive garages, or is free on the street if you are willing to walk a couple of blocks.

The Great Lakes and power boat...
Favorite thing: The Great Lakes and power boat races are the best fun! Racers are from all over the world. I think Brazilian won one year.
Fondest memory: Grand Haven is close by, about a half hour drive to see the many festivals at the beach of Lake Michigan.
I saw Bruce Jenner, Don Johnson, Chuck Norris, and many celebrities race their power boats. That is GREAT FUN for me!

Visit the fish ladder. My...
Favorite thing: Visit the fish ladder. My mother would always take guests to see the fish ladder, and it became a tradition. For dinner, Pietro's is the place to eat! Front door or Back door, the two separate atmospheres give you casual or fine dining.
Fondest memory: I miss driving the morning after a light snow, when there is about 2 inches of snow standing on even the smallest branches of trees. I also miss walking down a side walk with the light ice crunching beneath my feet.
MaktukLuvin's General Tip
Fondest memory: Was driving from Detroit to Grand Rapids, it was a very interesting and exciting drive. We'd drive and forget which place we're in. We stop by McDonald's and ask which that name of this place. This was also the first time looking at Farms instead of in the books. Really cool.
Visit the Gerald R. Ford...
Favorite thing: Visit the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. Most people who live here have never been in this historic building, and they don't know what they are missing.
Fondest memory: My fondest memory would be attending the Whitecaps (single-A baseball team) first game, in 1994. This was the beginning of this city's growing into a major minor league sports town... Hoops basketball(CBA), Whitecaps baseball (MWL), Griffins hockey (AHL), Rampage Arnea Football (AFL) and Grand Valley State University (NCAA DIV-II) have each made national headlines for their individual successes in recent years.
The VanAndel Museum downtown...
Favorite thing: The VanAndel Museum downtown offers a nice introduction to the West Michigan area. It's not very big and can be seen in a few hours. If you are so inclined, you could also visit the Gerald R. Ford Museum, located less than a block away. Nearby is Ah-Nab-Awen Park where outdoor concerts are held during Celebration on the Grand in September.
Fondest memory: Grand Rapids is only about a half-hour from Lake Michigan, and I've always loved the lake. I always miss it when I'm gone.
My favorite things to do in...
Favorite thing: My favorite things to do in Grand Rapids revolve around my friends. Every weekend we end up at Hope Street, Adams Street, Eastern, or Madison. We have a ton of fun...usually be making fun of each other!
Fondest memory: January was a great month, I hung out with my friend Ted, worked woth urban kids in an inner city school, and prepared for my move to London.
When here, you absolutely must...
Favorite thing: When here, you absolutely must try the restaurants. Out of everywhere I've been in the world, GR has the best restaurants. Detroit is the second best, but it's just too old-fashioned for me. Don't get me wrong, I like old-fashioned cars, but other than that, it's not my personal choice.
Fondest memory: Some of my first conscious memories are from when I first lived out here. I was just over a year old, our first house we bought in this city, and me and my brother went to pcik some flowers for my mom. They weren't wild flowers, mind you. They were fake, and in a flower basket just next to the patio door. Now, unbenownsed to us, my dad was right next to us taking a photo of the whole scene. That is the first and fondest memory I have.
One thing I love about Grand...
Favorite thing: One thing I love about Grand Rapids is the variety. There's skiing, boating, IHL Hockey, Arena Football, CBA Basketball, Midwest League Baseball, Civic Theater, VanAndel Museum, Gerald R. Ford Museum, and Meijer Gardens. Grand Rapids is also a popular major concert venue. Whatever your interest, Grand Rapids can provide you a way to feed it.
I actually live in Kalamazoo...
Favorite thing: I actually live in Kalamazoo area, so don't spend much time in GR. I do shop at Klingman's furnitur there. It is a wonderful store for all styles of furniture!
Fondest memory: Again, I live approx. 45 minutes south of GR, but there is a lake called Gun Lake, between K-zoo and GR which has some fun activities. We went to a working, period Cider Mill, visited the Devil's Soupbowl and ate at Sam's Joint near the lake.
starfate's General Tip
Fondest memory: Fondest Memory? My birth. (just kidding). Fondest memories are those involving the seasons...sledding/skiing and fireplace fires in the winter, colors of the tree foliage and the crispness of the air in the fall, flowers/new growth and 'after the rain' smell of spring, and time spent on the beaches of Lake Michigan and other inland lake/forest areas - hiking, biking, swimming, partying or enjoying a campfire watching the stars.
Downtown Grand Rapids
Favorite thing: This is downtown Grand Rapids.
Fondest memory: I have millions of memories from festivals to concerts to college and childhood.
