To get across to the island, you'll have to take a ferry. Arnold Transit is one of the options, and it's a pretty good one. They get numerous awards for best ferry (all the lines probably do), but I will give them credit - the boats are large, clean, and can really move! You can sit up on the deck or in the comfort of an interior room - if the weather is decent at all, go upstairs and watch the waves roll by. Be sure to go online ahead of time and order a coupon for $2 off every ticket ahead of time. Children under 5 are free. In season, boats run out every half hour.
Mackinac Island Ferry: Arnold Transit Co.
This is my favorite ferry line of the three. Considering they are all three equal in ticket price, the Arnold Line have the catamaran boats which are the fastest and the smoothest. Check their website for coupons.

Take the Ferry out to Mackinac...
Take the Ferry out to Mackinac Island. Bring your bike along or rent one on the Island.
Once on the island there are no motorized vehicles - you can get around via bicycle or horse-drawn carriage. I really enjoyed 'bar-hopping' on my bike after a nice day of riding around the island. There are some great hills too!
Mackinaw Trolley Company
I have never ridden one of these, but honestly, they look neat driving around town. I think it would be fun. They offer daily and group tours.
