    Da Yoopers are a local band that has achieved success for their gentle mockery of regional upper peninsula culture and life. Their "Tourist Trap" is a mock museum (and gift shop) that pokes fun at the rustic way of life here in the northwoods. Not surprisingly, a lot their humor is very crude, involving outhouses, drunken deer hunters, and dunderheaded Finns. If you liked the Jeff Daniels' film "Escanaba in da Moonlight," you'll love Da Yoopers Tourist Trap. It's on Highway 41 in West Ishpeming, about 15 miles west of Marquette.

    For a more serious view of Upper Peninsula life, visit the Marquette Historical Society and Museum.

    Ok, this isn’t actually in Marquette, as it is located west of the nearby town of Ishpeming on highway US 41. But it is a tourist trap, because the store even tells you it is a tourist trap. If you head over that way to visit the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame and Museum, or are arriving or leaving Marquette along US 41, you may want to stop at Da Yoopers Tourist Trap. This is a business started by Da Yoopers, a band made up of people from the U.P. who write and perform silly and sometimes off color songs making fun of the Yooper culture (people who live in Upper Michigan). The store carries souvenirs to remind you of your trip to the U.P., many of them meant to be funny. There are gag-gifts, children’s toys, jewelry, tee-shirts, sweatshirts, signs, hats, kitchen items, cookbooks, license plates, books, music CDs of their own Da Yooper funny songs, rocks, and lots lots more. Just a visit to their web page can be entertaining, so take a look. The photo shows a tee shirt I purchased at the Tourist Trap. It is making fun of the s**ty weather that the U.P. can have.

    • Definetly the biggest tourist trap is proudly called 'The Yooper Tourist Trap'. It's actually kindof fun, but don't expect to spend the day there or anything
