There are TONS of things to do in the Mesick/Cadillac/Traverse City area!
If you like to ski, there are plenty of ski resorts and hills!
Near Mesick, there is Caberfae Ski Resort. It is only about a 10-15 minutes drive south of Mesick on M-37.
If you are staying closer to Traverse City, there is Crystal Mountain and Shanty Creek
If you are into snowmobiling (sledding to us Michiganders!), Wexford County has a lot of great trails, groomed and ungroomed, whatever your pleasure!
The fall fishing has been great this year with the best salmon run that I can remember. The walleye and perch have also been hot on most of the northern inland lakes and will go on until ice up. There are TONS of lakes in Wexford County to fish!
I also recommend checking out the lighthouses (not in the wintertime!) on Lake Michigan.
There is a beautiful lighthouse north of Traverse City (Follow M-22 to get there) that is open May-October (for good reason--there is a LOT of snow and it is dangerous to drive up there in the wintertime!) called the Grand Traverse Light.
There is another in Manistee, among many other numerous lighthouses all over the shoreline to see and visit. Keep in mind, not all of the old lights are accessible, so have that camera ready!
In May, there is the Mushroom Festival in Mesick. So all of you who love those morels, get up to Mesick!
There are so many things to do in this area, they are too numerous to list!! Visit my links and find out more!
