  • Hackley House

This three-story wood-frame building is one of Michigan's most splendid examples of Queen Anne architecture. Fifteen stained-glass windows add to the elegance of the structure, and the interior decoration includes hand stenciled walls and ceilings, carved woodwork and seven tiled fireplaces. The house is a testimony to Hackley's wealth, and to an...

  • Pere Marquette Beach

Our FREE city park on Lake Michigan has, in my opinion, the most beautiful beach in Michigan. The Clean Beaches Council, a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., today awards 53 stretches of sand with a spot on its fifth annual list of "Clean and Healthy Beaches."The designations come just four days after a competing non-profit group,...

Muskegon Restaurants

  • steaks, martinis and all the good stuff

Great ambiance, a fine cozy dining experience (that won't break the bank) a gem you might not step into, if you didn't know it was there, but you won't regret. Great homemade soup or mixed greens salad for a lighter meal. As much as I like the steak, a couple slices of perch with an angus burger goes down well and leaves you feeling warm and full...

  • Great Local Restaurant

This is my favorite local restaurant. Well known for its wonderful soups, salads, and sandwiches, the restaurant offers a full menu of steaks, seafood and pasta. Hearthstone Cheese SoupThere are at least three daily soups, one of which is always a type of cheese. The soups are very inventive and always delicious!

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Muskegon Heights is Muskegon's worst area for crime. It's no Detroit 8 Mile, but should still be steered around by lone travellers and females.

The Heights is basically the area west of Getty, south of Laketon, and northeast of Business-31. One particular flashpoint is a 7-11 style convenience/liquor store on the corner of Sherman and Hoyt which has been the scene of numerous holdups.

Stretching from Black Creek Road just north of Sherman (east of US-31) out through the back of Fruitport to Ravenna and on to Conklin and Marne, the Musketawa Trail is a biking, rollerblading, snowmobiling and cross-country ski trail built along an old railway track.

Equipment: Muskegon County allows snowmobiling on its roads' shoulders.
