The Links & Quarry Courses: Fun Golf!

by charlenemixa Written Jun 14, 2014

My husband and I enjoyed the Links and Quarry Courses at Bay Harbor. Ladies be sure to select the best tees for your handicap. The Links course is very scenic as are several holes on the Quarry. Pay attention to the GPS and pointers. Excellent Pro Shop! Also has nice restaurants for dining or having drink outside with views of the Lake.

The Links is an Irish seaside style course with natural grasses and spectacular views of Lake Michigan. Several holes play along 150 foot bluffs overlooking Lake Michigan which is one of the deepest freshwater views in the world. It remains overcast as we play the Links with a strong wind especially along the water. Making the turn we begin the nine holes of The Quarry as it winds around a 40 foot gorge that was formerly a shale quarry. An Arthur Hill design the course finishes with dramatic flair along the shore of Lake Michigan.

    Newer Casino: Odawa Casino

by charlenemixa Written Jun 14, 2014

Every visit to northern Michigan requires a stop in one of their various Casinos. For us it was Odawa Casino in Petoskey. This is a newer casino and is very spacious. Not like some of the old smokey casinos of the past. We got a $20 coupon when we checked into our hotel, which made it fun to gamble with "their money". For some reason we don't seem to have much luck at the Michigan Indian Casinos in winnings. Still it is a very good casino! Just hope others have better luck than we did.

Crooked Tree Golf Course - Excellent!

by charlenemixa Updated Jun 14, 2014

We were extremely impressed with this golf course. It is in excellent condition from the fairways to the greens. Offering a varied terrain with many elevation changes it was fun and exciting. Players of all levels will find it demanding. We played on a Monday and had a very good pace of play. We enjoyed the dynamic challenges of its varied holes and liked it as much as we did playing the Bay Harbor courses a few years ago. Be prepared to play target golf on some holes and pay close attention to where the fairways end for several “drop off” fairway holes. The greens are almost impossible –lots of undulations! The Pro Shop person said they kept them slow because they are so difficult to putt. We agree! Golfers of all levels will enjoy this beautifully maintained course away from the crowds. It has some fantastic views of Lake Michigan.

    Take a walk through Petoskey!

by charlenemixa Written Jun 14, 2014

Petoskey is a great walking town as long as one is up to a few hills. There are a large variety of shops from a General Store to upscale shops. Additionally, they have an excellent selection of restaurants from Stafford's to deli's. The downtown are has a beautiful park for relaxing, enjoying the family or chilling out. There is a great pier on Lake Michigan we is accessible by walking under a road (good path) or parking in the area. Fantastic views of Lake Michigan, plenty of benches for resting, and nice facilities and small museum.

Magnificent views of Lake Michigan from park.
