  • A Great Place to Visit or Live

    by indigonation87 Updated Oct 14, 2010

Favorite thing: If you like Crime, Drugs, People who are Arrogant, Drama and Fights all the time, To get everything of value robbed, and landlords who don't care about anyone this place is great. If you are on welfare, do drugs, and like to think your in a big city and get so drunk or high that sometimes you pass out on others lawns or in the street, and don't mind if people just pee or vomit in plane sight and hang on your porch when you are not there. then this is heaven for you, the police wont protect you but they really don't enforce the laws either.

  • A Great Place To Shop

    by J.Dorland Written Feb 9, 2009

Favorite thing: There is limitless shopping in Port Huron. Just about every store chain can be found "out on the strip" just north of town.

Fondest memory: I visit Port Huron regularly find it a friendly place for eating, shopping and accommodations. My favourite places to eat are: Cheap Charlies (the best pizza I've had) and the Thomas Edison Hotel ( great food and atmosphere). I often go to the Birchwood Mall while in Port Huron for general shopping and stay at either the Holiday Inn Express ( hard to find) or the Hampton Inn ( my favourite). The rooms are clean, the staff are excellent and the rates reasonable.

    The Port Huron Reality

    by brmuda_mohawk Written Jul 14, 2003

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Port Huron, an unusual place. It's a city of 35,000, in anl area of roughly 200,000 in a 15 mile radius. It's a small town that wants to desperately believe it isn't.

The city government views PH as a "resort locale", which it most certainly isn't. This is based on the proximity to Lake Huron, although the vast majority of the boats in the city's marinas belong to very blue-collar residents who use them as a place to sit and drink beer. The "old money" of PH, the grey-haired professionals who make the city "move" (they actually work hard to keep it incredibly stagnant, but I digress)

Rarely does someone use PH as a destination, despite the city's claim to fame as the "home of Thomas Edison while he was a child, even though he himself stated he hated the place and was glad to get the hell out".

The middle class more closely identify with the poorer residents, since the poor folk will at least talk to the middle class while they stop and pee on their lawns. Rapper Eminem is essentially a local god here, emulated not for his success, but because the residents tend to identify with his earlier LACK of success. The majority of young people dress like him, including the females, and wear their personal failure as a badge of honor.

The local police pretty much write the law as they see fit, then unwind with a good game of drunken basketball, followed by a nice dangerous *** drunken drive home. Laws are enforced more unequally than normal, with police happily not bothering the more privledged with having to know the laws. The lower end knows not to complain, it'll only bring more trouble. Judges go along with this with a wink and a nod.

Universally, PH residents view themselves as big-city types, when in reality they aren't. They're hicks. The wealthier residents see themselves as "choosing the slower pace of life on the river", while therest like to think they're every bit as sophisticated as anyone in a REAL city.
Come to Port Huron, step back in time to 1992!
