This was a pretty typical Denny's with little to differentiate it from the others. The Tilapia Ranchero was adequately prepared and the service decent. Nothing to complain about, but nothing extraordinary to raise it above average either.
Favorite Dish: I like the Tilapia Ranchero
The Embassy Grill is shoved into a small space in a strip mall. The inner decor was nondescript with fake leather and Formica; but when I am after lunch, I care more about the food and the service. I had Chicken Shawarma (Chicken cooked in a lemon and garlic sauce with herbs and spices). It was well prepared and tasted very good. Portion size was more than adequate. Service was pretty good and the waitress was friendly.
Favorite Dish: I enjoyed the Chicken Shawarma. I had never had it before so I cannot say how authentic it was.
I asked the desk clerk at my hotel where to eat and she recommended Cheddar's. Cheddar's is a chain of restaurants. The decor was dark colors and wood. Service was pretty good. They also had a bar. I ordered Cajun Catfish which was very good and actually pretty spicy like it should be. Price was very reasonable for what I got. Worth a try.
Favorite Dish: Loved the Cajun Catfish
Suomi is interesting for several reasons. First, the building was built in 1869 and is very attractive. This is also the #1 rated restaurant in town. I warn you though, the smell of the bread may make you overeat. The name of the restaurant is Finnish, as are the words at the top of each category of food, but the items on the menu are mostly American except for desert. The sandwich I had for lunch was very good, and the staff was efficient and friendly. I heard the breakfast here is fantastic. I highly recommend this restaurant. Almost a 5!
Favorite Dish: The Hot Meatloaf Sandwich was quite good.
There was a Mexican Restaurant near my hotel so I decided to try it. It was La Senorita. The building had the appropriate Swiss Chalet style (which looked strange for a Mexican Restaurant) and the sign has a senorita dancing in a full skirt. Inside the decor was bright and colorful with baskets, colored lights, lanterns, and a nice mural. I ordered my usual; an Enchilada Platter. The food was very good; the service was just okay. I opted not to try the Margaritas. The bar appeared to be closed.
Favorite Dish: The Enchilada Platter was above average, especially the Cheese Enchilada.
GREAT, GREAT and Amazing. Not sure how or why this place is in downtown Detroit, but it is awesome.
The large windows can be opened, giving the feel of being on the sidewalk while you are still in the restaurant!!
Food is very tasty, modern, beautiful and they have a huge wine list!!
Service was super - freindly, prompt and followed instruction to the "T"
Valet parking is avaiable if needed, I was walking around so did not use it.
They also have a bar located in the restaurant.
In Ann Arbor, Krazy Jim's is nationally recognized. But also consider Zingermans (fancy deli, expensive but great corn beef, etc!); also Chick Inn in Ypsilanti next door, about 20 minute drive on Prospect St. Chick Inn is a 1950 style drive-in, great burgers and cheese steak hoagie. Broadway Cafe - Broadway Rd, Ann Arbor - also has great cheese steaks, and, curiously, Korean main dishes.
Email if you need more hints. We are locals....
Favorite Dish: Krazy Jim - the Blimpy Burger - a diner style burger
Zingermans - the Brooklyn Reuben (Pastrami, swiss & sauerkraut
Chick Inn - Philly Cheese Steak (cheddar, beef, yellow pepper & onion)
This place has been here for generations. It's where the locals go.... Great variety of food and prices... When available, try their authentic Gumbo... owner grew up in St Mary's Parish and knows what good good food.. Building is being authenticated presently. Street level floor was restored to it's original interior, Penwater brick, 13ft ceilings and looks out over the center town Village Green. Their competitors come and go but they are the oldest on going business in the Village...
Favorite Dish: Gumbo when it's available is the best. Their Black Angus, Buffalo and Elk burgers have always been the best in town. The buns they use are custom made for them by a bakery using their original receipt brought with them from Europe 103 years ago... Great menu
This is a Used Book store which serves great coffee with delicious looking snacks.- The staff is incredibly friendly and best of all they have this computer for use for all us folks who do NOT travel with a laptop. The book store is big and well organized with plenty of comfortable chairs and sofas to lounge in a browse. I understand that they have live music here on Saturday evenings. A wonderful atmosphere and I would highly recommend stopping here.
Favorite Dish: The coffee and bagel were delicious
THIS IS THE BEST RESTAURANT. THE STAFF IS VERY FRIENDLY AND THE FOOD OH SO GOOD. IT IS SET UP AS A BUFFET AND A BAR. THE BUFFET HAS ALL NON COOKED FOOD. FROZEN MEAT AND COLD VEGETABLES. EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR A STIR FRY. YOU PUT IT ALL IN A BOWL AND HAND THE BOWL TO THE COOKS. ITS SO COOL. THEY TAKE YOUR FOOD DUMP IT ON THE BIG GRILL AND COOK IT RIGHT BEFORE YOU AS THEY SING AND CARRY ON. ITS SUCH A FUN ENVIRONMENT. CHECK EM OUT AT WWW.GOMONGO.COM. YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPPOINTED.
Favorite Dish: EVERYTHING
On our way down to Chicago, Hans and I took the slow, but scenic route along Highway 60 through Michigan. We passed the towns of Concord, Union City, Three Rivers, Niles and Menden. It was getting close to lunch time and Hans mentioned that he could really go for a pulled pork sandwich. I said "Hansi, we're in the middle of rural Michigan with nothing but farms and cornfields. We have to drive to Kentucky for a genuine pulled pork sandwich." Well, not even 20 minuted later, while passing through Menden, Michigan, we see a BIG sign reading BREWSTERS SMOKE HOUSE AND BBQ PIT. We looked at each other laughing and said "Yeah baby" and pulled into the parking lot.
Of course we both ordered the smoked pulled pork which was piled high with shredded pork on a sourdough roll and came with a plate of fries -- all for $5.49. Woohoo. It was delish!
Brewsters also offers a variety of Appetizers like Chicken fritters, Wisconsin Mozzarella sticks and Applewood smoked chicken wings.
Sandwiches and Burgers, Smoked chicken, smoked ham, smoked turkey breast and St. Louis style Spare Ribs. Also Steaks, Seafood and More.

The Mackinac Grille had some great whitefish said to be not more than a few hours old, bought fresh every morning. Meals, (except for ours) seemed to be served promptly and to much fanfare to locals and tourists alike. They featured a lot of local beers and foods like pasties as well as the fresh fish and general selection of sandwiches and steaks. All the waitresses except for one (ours) were exceptionally pretty and friendly. Everyone who worked there except for one (can you believe it was our waitress again?) was just really friendly, recommended the best views of the lake so you could watch the ships and really seemed to hope you enjoyed yourself.
Favorite Dish: Whitefish!
Restaurant name suggests one should try the Bi Bim Bap, a rice and vegetable dish which is prepared exactly like in Korea. This is not only my modest opinion but also that of my Korean colleague....
Menu includes other Korean delicacies and it's worth to try a few things.
Set in Historic Bay View, this historic inn has a fantastic restaurant. With the new owners the food is incredible. I was so excited to here that they are open for Lunch and Dinner during the Summer. The atmosphere in this inn is great. They even have dining out on their veranda.
Favorite Dish: Their Pork Tenderloin is to die for, but everything else is good also.
I personally have never eaten here but plan to soo. Friends adore this place and I found a great review online for you...
Such an excellent twist on mexican food and spices! I've tried the mahi-mahi, filet, pork, and enchiladas - everything was great. The made-to-order chips and salsa are the best I've had. New to Detroit, and Agave is my favorite restaurant. Better bang for your buck than Rattlesnake; not as pretentious as Royal Oak. Don't miss this one!
Favorite Dish: Dinner until midnight and lots and lots of tequila!
