Forty Mile Point Lighthouse is about 7 miles to the north of Rogers City, along US 23. The lighthouse is not open to the public, but it's interesting to walk around the grounds. On the nearby beach is the keel of an old shipwreck, and you can also look at one of the lifeboats that was used by the rescue society here.

"Named by 17th century French explorers _La Mer Douce_, the sweet or freshwater sea, Lake Huron is the second largest of the Great Lakes. It has over 3800 miles of shoreline and contains 30,000 islands, among them Manitoulin, the world's largest freshwater island. Violent storms on the "sweet sea" have made it dangerous for ships. As of 2006, 1200 wrecks had been recorded. During the Big Blow of 1905, 27 wooden vessels were lost. One of these, the steamer _Joseph S. Fay_ ran aground. A portion of its hull rests on the beach approximately 200 feet north of the Forty Mile Point Lighthouse. The Great Storm of 1913 was responsible for sinking many modern Steel ships."

Visit the Nautical Festival in Late Summer--- its a week long celebration celebrating the Nautical nature of the city. Rogers City is also home to the largest Natural Limestone quarry in the world...Dont be suprised to see a visiting Great Lakes Freighter in Calcite Harbor. QUITE A TREA
The Nautical City Stands out above all the rest, the closeness of the community, the rich heritage of our people and the buisness and industry in the area are second to none. Were growing, and improving daily

Nice that there's a theater here, so that the local folk don't have to drive 35 miles to Alpena just to see a show.
