Things to Do

Hit the Trails

Hit the Trails, Saginaw

LaurenAnita Says:  Go for a hike! The good thing about Saginaw is its many parks. Shiawasee is the biggest of them all. The trail is clean, and it extends for a long time. If you go early in the morning or at dusk, you can see the deer. Its never usually crowded. The trails are scenic and...

Ojibway Park

Ojibway Park, Saginaw

LaurenAnita Says:  Ojibway park is about the only park I've seen in Saginaw. Joggers, families, and couples like to head out there when the weather is nice. Its pretty decent in size, with a pretty view of the river. Down the street from this park is a Japanese Teahouse and Garden. Some...

Drive around in big cars

Drive around in big cars, Saginaw

amapola66 Says:  As Michigan is so big...there really isn't much in the way of public transport (from what I could see anyway)...Still, it was fun (if rather environmentally unfriendly), to drive around in some enormous cars which easily fitted in the whole gang.Pictured here, the enormous...

Hagerty's: FLAWLESS local barbecue!

Hagerty's: FLAWLESS local barbecue!, Saginaw

johnste Says:  We've been four times in two weeks! Tuesdays their special is the brisket. You can see the smoke ring in the meat. SO tender. Served on perfect homemade garlic toast with smoky baked beans (with meat). You can tell by the flavor - it's REAL woodsmoke. Adds a dimension, not a...

Olive Garden: Italian

Olive Garden: Italian, Saginaw

LaurenAnita Says:  I've always liked Olive Gardens- the one on Bay isn't bad either. The staff are welcoming, and your waiter is usually attentive. If you've been to an Olive Garden before than you know the atmosphere. If not, then its a sit down kind of place, that can maintain a comfortable...

Zorba's: Greek Food Anyone?

Zorba's: Greek Food Anyone?, Saginaw

LaurenAnita Says:  Zorba's serves some great Greek Food. I'd never had Greek food before, but I've never been dissapointed here. The ambience is ok, though coming through the entrance you pass a smokey bar, and the outside isn't "wow, cool." Lol. What speaks for Zorba's is its wonderful food...

Beijing BBQ: Chinese for Lunch

Beijing BBQ: Chinese for Lunch, Saginaw

LaurenAnita Says:  Beijing BBQ is a buffet style restaurant. Their lunch special is really cheap- I think it comes to 6.25 after tax. The ambience is nice, better than First Wok. First Walk? Lol. Food is better here too. The employees are all pleasant, and the booths are comfortable. The...

Hunans: Skip this Chinese Place

Hunans: Skip this Chinese Place, Saginaw

LaurenAnita Says:  The food was ok- the ambience wasn't so bad. The room is really decked out. But the help are mostly really rude and inattentive. I have even been threatened by the manager when out with friends, and we left without paying a tip. Their wonton wasn't bad. Stay away from their...

Panda House: Best Chinese Place in Town

Panda House: Best Chinese Place in Town, Saginaw

LaurenAnita Says:  No restaurant I've been to in Saginaw yet really tops the Panda House in ambience. The dining area is very nice, with dim lighting that isn't too dim, along with lots of Chinese arts and crafts. The waiters/waitresses are really nice, including the owners. The food is always...

Hello Sushi: Best Sushi in Michigan

Hello Sushi: Best Sushi in Michigan, Saginaw

LaurenAnita Says:  Moderate to High cost, this restaurant always serves execellent food. Although they serve more than sushi, including a wide range of Japanese cousine, they are best known for their raw fish. It is small, with good ambience. You can sit at the sushi counter or at a table of...

Genjis: Good Asian Cousine

Genjis: Good Asian Cousine, Saginaw

LaurenAnita Says:  Genjis is one of my favorite restaurants. It has a very good atmosphere. You can select private seating or you can choose to pick a table, where the cooks fry up your meal on a table that you all sit around, and performs some little tricks to keep you entertained. As well as...

Nightlife

The Mixx: Clubbin'

The Mixx: Clubbin', Saginaw

LaurenAnita Says:  If you are looking for dancing there is no beating the Mixx! Its got a reputation as a "gay club", but a lot of straight people go too. Its ten dollars at the door (don't forget your ID)- they have a bar, a decent sized dance floor, usually good music- a stage- and in the...

A strip of bars and eateries in lumber era bldgs: Old Town Saginaw

A strip of bars and eateries in lumber era bldgs: Old Town Saginaw, Saginaw

johnste Says:  Old Saginaw City is one of the oldest commercial areas in the Saginaw Valley and is still a thriving community offering more than you may be aware of.From entertainment to dinning, from comics to clothing Old Town Saginaw has something to offer everyone. Following are some...

When visiting my cousins, I noticed Saginaw is full of shopping malls & strip malls. But if you're interested in finding a unique store that sells home decor & handcrafted gifts, Pride & Country Village would be the place. Check out the restored train car & depot at the back of the building. Hungry? Grab a bite to eat in the deli.

What to buy: greeting cards, home furnishing, porcelein dolls, wallpaper, paint, jewelry, rugs, curtains, candles, garden centre (May - Sept), seasonal dept (Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc)

Warnings and Dangers

Saginaw real dangers

Saginaw real dangers, Saginaw

johnste98 Says:  Yes, the east side is where the poor people live. And the highest percentage of drug dealers. Stay off streets named after fruit trees (Cherry), numbers (4th), and with "wood" in the name (Robinwood) at most times.Otherwise, you'll be fine. I volunteer in the area and have...

the East Side

the East Side, Saginaw

LaurenAnita Says:  The East Side can be a nice place to visit if you go to the right spots. A lot of it is rundown though, and most of the crime in Saginaw occurs on the East Side. So, be smart, lock your stuff up, etc. like you would in any other city.

East side-Scary!

East side-Scary!, Saginaw

gusannul Says:  Saginaw is an ultra-poor city with high unemployment. This may explain the condition the east-side is in. I drove through while heading home on 75 from up north. I got the heck out of there promptly. I never imagined I would be that frightened. I was afraid to even stop at...
