Holland's Tulip Time Festival....
  • Tip Rating:
  • Holland's Tulip Time Festival. It is a big 'To Do' around May. It is a mad house with cars crawling along and people everywhere. The Dutch are quickly becoming a minority. It is interesting and fun but I would only do it once and bring a suitcase-full of patience!

  • Tip Rating:
  • The 'tourist' areas of Michigan are Really expensive...for a cheaper stay, look for a hotel or resturaunts a little ways away from the main attraction.

This is actually not a listing...
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is actually not a listing for a tourist trap. It is a continuation of some more of the fun places to go whilst in Michigan. If you do not mind somewhat heavy crowds of people at the campground you will be staying at, check out Warren Dunes. Down the Lake Michigan coastline about half an hour to an hour north of the Indiana - Michigan border at the Saginaw exit on interstate 80/90/94, you will find said campground. Here you will find a clean place to put up a tent, showers, modernized poopers, nearby restaurants and even a place in Saginaw to wash your clothes should you be staying longer than a short while. If you have brought your radio, you are in luck! You can easily pick up stations from Chicago and if you so choose, you could dance to the rhythms played on any one of the many dance music stations from the windy city. And here is an idea! After you have had your fun in this campground, you can head on over to any place in the Chicagoland area to take your significant other out dancing! Kind of like a last breath of escapist fresh air before you begin returning home. My suggestion? Stay the night in the Motel 6 closest to the O'hare airport. Enjoy your dancing a short way away at this place called Boogie Nights. www.BoogieNights.com And then there is more! The Woodfield Mall is almost right on top of you as you go dancing here! Mot a bad bit of fun at all, were you to ask me! ;-)

I am not sure of the name of this place, but it's a 'haunted house' right on Main Street. As you walk by, they've got the creepy music playing and 'scary' pictures of what's inside. Of course, I dragged my husband in to see it, and we just died laughing!! Cheesy!!! And, it was expensive! I believe it was $4-5 or more!! Oh well...it was something to do...

    Traveling without a lap top
I found computers with internet connection all through my trip. Stopped for breakfast in Manistique in the UP at a Big Boy. Looked like a chain so stopped. Had a great breakfast with really friendly waitresses, a huge cup of coffee for the road, when I suddenly spotted computers. No problem sat down and spent another hour there and of course paid for more coffee. In Petoskey happily fell upon Coffee and Connect. A really nice looking coffee shop and computers - great! To my dismay $2.50 for 15 mins and you can use your laptop there for free for 1 hour if you buy something and after that you pay too. Why? What for? Instead of spending a while there and at an hour I might even have had something to eat with a coffee, I paid the money sat down, managed to read my mail and the headlines of my paper when already - "pay up" came up and I was out of there. Never even stopped to take a coffee for the road. Very dissapointing and surely not worth it.

Noticed a Big Boy on the main road. Never stopped to check but wonder if they have computers there.

    CABELA'S OUTFITTER
Unfortunately, this is the #1 tourist attraction in Michigan. "Unfortunately" because there are so many great things to see here. But it is a store that encourages outdoor activities, which isn't so bad.

The 225,000 sq. ft store eclipses any Bass Outdoor World you may have been to. Plus it has a special attraction - THE DEAD ZOO.

Yes, THE DEAD ZOO is a cornucopia of taxidermied critters of all shapes and sizes. Elephants, Zebra, Elk, various birds, they have it all down to the cute furry bunny rabbits. They pose in natural looking displays, some as large as 3 stories tall, interacting with one another. Interesting in its own creepy way, it is very much a world class museum exhibit. I'm surprised PETA hasn't discovered it.

So if the Detroit Zoo is too far, or you are in need of survival gear and have a hankering for some beef jerky, load up the family and head for Dundee.

Buy some camping gear, and take time to do the target shooting.
