We had an amazing time at the Character Challenge Course. Located about 80 miles northwest of Brainerd, the trip is absolutely worth your while! Staff are supportive and helpful and safety is key to the experience. Bring loads of cameras and lots of guts, the zip line will make you scream, but the Giant Swing will make you....Lets just say you'll get your money's worth!

Boat right up! Only the best taco pizza I have ever had in my life! This was a great stop. They had live entertainment, great drinks, chips and salsa. Sit outside under an umbrella and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere.

Brainerd Local Customs

When in Brainerd, all I can really say is be nice to the locals, we prolly know more about the area than you do.-- But, we don't have a problem with tourists, because they fuel the summer economy, so if you need anything at all, just be nice, courteous, and you'll be helped with anything you need.

Brainerd Warnings and Dangers

the only warnings or dangers I can hand out are the immense populations of Mosquitoes. we have lots of lakes and wetlands, therefore, Mosquitoes breed like there's no tomorrow, and they always have a fresh supply of food, so they grow to large sizes-- watch for them. Another warning is when driving on back-highways (18, 25, and CR77) watch for Deer, we have lots of them, and they like to run in front of cars.

Just a short drive from Brainerd is a beautiful lake, Bay Lake, many years I spent my summers their fishing, swimming, and skiing. Another town to visit while in the Brainerd area is Nisswa. It is a very small town, but has some unique gift shops, i.e. indian, antiques, knick knacks, moccasins, and the Best candy store! Nothing like digging your favorite candy of years gone by out of a neverending barrel!

    Supposed HauntingTavern - Downtown
Sometime in the 1800's two Indians were picking berries near the edge of town, when a group of angry white townspeople found them and dragged them back to the center of town. They were accused of raping and killing a young white girl and they were hanged outside the local tavern. A few years later, a white man confessed to raping and killing the young girl. The tavern still stands in downtown Brainerd and sometimes at night when the bar closes, people have reported hearing the cries of Indian people and the beating of drums.

Favorite thing: You must stop by the shops that sell hand made carvings out of trees. They may be a little expensive for some, but they are still neat to look at, and in some cases you might be able to see them making one!

Favorite thing: if you are visiting during the Ice-fishing Extravaganza, then you absolutely must visit, and take part in that. More than 14,000 Ice-fishermen gather at Hole-in-the-day bay of Gull Lake to take part in the largest non-profit ice-fishing contest in the world.
During the Summer, I would bring a friend golfing one of our many PGA-style golf courses, or kayaking or boating on one of our beautiful lakes

Fondest memory: one of my best/fondest memories of brainerd are the tranquil times near sunset (from about 7-9) when all of the fishermen are out in their boats and the sun is reflecting off the water and I'm in my waders flyfishing, it's quiet, and serene, and the call of the Common Loon wails across the water..... it's a beautiful place....

Favorite thing: We ride Motorcycles,so the best thing to do is ride the lake roads. The site seeing is FABULOUS!! You HAave many lakes to choose from,Gull lake,Pequat lake, Mille Lacs,Crosslake and many many more.

Fondest memory: After a great day of riding there's nothing better than going to get some food, and the BEST place is Squaw Point's The Butcher Block!! The expirence is something you'll NEVER forget. This is a lounge/Restraunt. In the dinning room is a Large Open Grill. You choose the cut of meat you want and take it to the grill. Ther's all the added seasonings you could ever want around the grill. You cook you meat with other people around the grill. You talk about your day and the wonderful time you've had. There is also your salads, potatoesbreads and beverages, too. IT'S A BLAST!!!
