If you would prefer steak try the Ely Steakhouse. This is another place to get some good food and drink. In addition to steak, the Ely Steakhouse also has several seafood dishes. The decor inside is casual and homey. The staff was friendly and efficient. Price-wise maybe a little better than the Boathouse. The lounge has cocktails and a variety of beers and wines. Open daily from 11 AM to 10 PM, and the lounge remains open until 1 AM.
Favorite Dish: Try the Cajun Blackened Walleye or the Prime Rib.

The Boathouse is a fairly fancy restaurant with a varied menu. They also have a variety of beers including some specialty beers. It is located in a nice older building in the historic district downtown. The decor inside was pretty nice too. Service was a little slow but the food was good. Appeared to be a hangout for some local singles. A little pricey.
Favorite Dish: I really enjoyed my Walleye Almondine.

A 5 minute drive from downtown out between the lakes. Some tables have a great view. We, however, wound up back in the corner where all we saw was wall! It is a lodge/conference center, so a little bit of a different 'feel' than just a restaurant. Food was very good and several choices. Hostess had many duties, including bussing tables & taking payments, so a little bit of a wait at times. Wait staff seemed friendly and efficient.
Favorite Dish: Reuben soup! With, yeah, sauerkraut!!! Excellent!! Also good chicken/wild rice soup. Great filet & good flank steak. Mounds of very lightly steamed broccoli with the filet.

Probably the most popular local restaurant. Has pool tables (somewhere, we didn't see) and specials different nights. Locals speak highly of it. Staff was a little disjointed when we arrived & we had to wait several minutes for anyone to notice we were there other than the servers who looked at us & ignored us.
Apparently it is legal to serve minors liquor in Minnesota. We got a shock when a 10 year old was served beer and wine!!!
Favorite Dish: Walleye. Any way. Local & well prepared.

Cranberry's is a good, nothing fancy, casual place to get a bite or have a drink. The food was always satisfying to us. This was our stop both before and after going for our week long adventures into the BWCA.
Favorite Dish: The menu is nothing special, but prices are right and the food is always good.
They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

1 Review and 24 Opinions I liked the look of this hotel from the outside, partly because I am a sucker for wooden buildings....
