    four way traffic

by Faracy Written Jul 25, 2004

Minnesotans have what seems like contests as to who will let who go first as a four way stop.. this leads to crashes. Its like holding your breath... I´ve had several near accidents because of being waved across the street by someone, and then them starting out too..
Its dumb! There is also a lot of Jay walking, particularly in Minneapolis.

    Driving

by mnhaus Written Jan 31, 2003

Ummm....let's just say I've lived many places in the US, and driven most everywhere on the continent, and Minneapolis drivers are right up there amongst the worst. Why? I dunno - but if you decide to rent a car and do some touring, be on your guard. That's all.

  • Not bad drivers- Tourists Can't Drive Conditions

by MNtoLA Written Jun 14, 2009

Not all MN drivers are bad. Actually, most are good drivers. MN nice does apply in traffic. Just put your turn signal on and someone will let you in. You don't need to be an aggressive driver and MN drivers don't like this. Usually, its the tourists who come and don't know how to drive on ice or in snowstorms that end up causing problems. As you get more rural, some of the driving is worse, but it usually its slow driving. This is because elderly people in MN are very stubborn, insisting that they can drive until they die. Its not uncommon for nursing home residents to drive themselves still. As far as jaywalking- its worse in St. Paul- but don't do it. You'll be ticketed. In the Urban areas- 10mph above the speed limit is the norm and you better keep up or move over. With the 4 way stops, the person to the right of you has the right of way, and if they don't take it, then you can take it. The accidents come when people are unsure of who needs to go. I just always go and never have any problems. One last tip- Roads are high maintenance because of the weather and you need to watch out for pot holes. Especially in rural areas. It is acceptable to drive on the other side of the road to avoid the pot hole if nobody is coming.
