    The Minneapolis/Saint-Paul International Airport (MSP) sits between the Twin Cities and has two terminals, The Humphrey terminal with a Minneapolis address and the Lindbergh Terminal with a St. Paul Address.

    Obviously, this is a major airport and the different terminals are served by different airlines. To me it can come a bit confusing, so be sure to know from which terminal you will be landing and/or leaving. The terminals are not far apart and both seem to use the same runways. Both terminals are serviced by light rail which runs north to downtown Minneapolis and south to the Mall of America in Bloomington.

    Directions:
    MSP's Lindbergh Terminal is located just off Highway 5 in St. Paul. Highway 5 connects to Interstate 494 and Highway 55, making MSP easily accessible from any direction. The Humphrey Terminal is just off Interstate 494 near 34th Avenue.

    We flew Northwest from Chicago-Midway. A pretty good experience all around. The MSP ariport has changed a LOT since I was last there back in the dark ages.

    Minneapolis is the hub for NorthWest Airlines. I know the Minneapolis airport pretty well as most flights from Winnipeg to the States have a stop here. Minneapolis is one of the few airports with fastfood restaurants at fastfood prices (I presume because NWA does not serve food on their flights).

    There are many, many ways to get here.

    1. There's by car

    2. There's by train. I love riding the Amtrak. It generally pretty comfortable and about half the time you have both seats to yourself. I've become very able to sleep in extremely unusual and strange positions =)

    3. There's by bus, although I recommend avoiding that, Although yopu meet 'interesting' people that way...with 'interesting' smells to them

    4. By plane. This is where I usually fly out & into whenever I travel. In fact, this picture is of my sister and I waiting to fly to Denver a couple years ago. The airport is set up in an H formation and it always seem that my flights are on opposite side of the airport on the occasions I flight from Rochester and transfer here.

    • Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport is a hub for Northwest and it's pretty easy to find non-stop flights from most major cities. Internationally there are non-stop flights from London, Amsterdam, Tokyo and Reykjavik.

    If you live in the Upper Midwest as I do, it's inevitable that sooner or later you will have some time to kill at MSP. Actually, it's one of my favorite Hub airports. There are plenty of interesting nooks and crannies in lounge in, two decent bookstores, a brew pub, and several long corridors or passageways that offer intriguing perspectives. This is a good place to reflect upon the quiddity of travel.

    I must admit, MSP is one of the best airports in the nation. It has quick security and great public areas.

    The downside: NorthWest Airlines has the monopoly here, it's not a cheap place to fly to.

    In April of 2004 the Hiawatha Line light rail route openned after a lot of controvesy, hype, delays and running over budget. The rail line links the Mall of America with Minneapolis International Airport and Downtown Minneapolis. After 3 years the LRT is a great success with ridership well and above projections. Look for contruction of the Central Corridor LRT route to begin in the next couple of years with service from Downtown St. Paul to Downtown Minneapolis. Also, a commuter rail line is set to open in the next 3 years that will service the the northern suburbs with Downtown Minneapolis.

    Tickets are $1.50(non-rush hours) and $2.00(rush hours) for each way. Tickets must be bought from a ticket vending machine which can be found at any Metro transit station or at the train stations.

    The ride from the airport to downtown takes about 30 minutes. Along the route, the train makes a stops about every half mile and more when you reach downtown Minneapolis.
