Brit's Pub, Minneapolis
By it's name you can assume correctly that this is a English style pub.
One of the unique features this pub has is that on the second level, outside on topof an ajacent parking ramp, sits a well maintained patch of lawn. Yes I said lawn. Much like a well kept putting green. This is used for lawn bowling. They have leagues and you can rent out the lawn for large private parties. However, I'm not sure if they allow individuals use the lawn for lawn bowling. Check with the bar.
This is an extremely popular place afterwork and caters to a higher end crowd.
Dress Code: No dress code, but crowd is generally very well dressed. Business attire.
What with our long-ish winters, we get a little crazy for the outdoors in the spring/summer/fall months. This is one of my favorite downtown patio spots for a cold pint and catching some rays. Brit's has three different open-air spots for doing just that: on the sidewalk bordering Nicollet Mall, around the rooftop lawn-bowling green, and on an airy, wicker-chaired veranda above the green.
Inside, you can lift an arm on a stool in the high-ceilinged main bar, stretched out on a couch in the Long Room, or by the pool tables in the mezzanine. Soccer, cricket, rugby and other sport are always on the telly. The menu is standard pub grub with a good selection of English and European beers, and reduced prices on food/drink during Happy Hour (Mon - Fri, 4:30 - 6:30.) This is a hot spot with the downtown office crowd so it's packed and lively around 5:00 during the week.
One word of caution: seating out front (on Nicollet Mall) is noisy and thick with bus fumes during evening rush. It's a much better spot for weekends and late evenings when traffic is thinner. Oh, and the patios are only open during spring/summer/fall months.
Dress Code: As you are.
Okay, all you Brits who might be in town visiting, here's the place for you to go get a decent pint and watch some Premiere League football. NOT a quiet spot, but always crowded with interesting people.
The Brit's Pub is a very popular hangout located at Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis. Everyone who I met in Minneapolis recommended me to go there for a pint or two.
It's a rather cool place - and it was quite crowded during the memorial weekend where the other places in downtown was pretty much dead.
Atmosphere - good
It's a nice looking pub with flags of the commonwealth and other ex-colonies countries hanging from the ceiling. The staff are very nice and again I was there during a quiet weekend; but it must be very nice and lovely on a regular Friday night.
Food - good
I had the chicken tikka with pita bread - surely above the quality of standard bar food
Location - very good
Right there on Nicollet Mall; very easy to find and within walking distance to other restaurants/bars and the theatre district.
Price - OK
I think they charge like $5 for a pint of domestic.
Overall - very good
I will definitely come back here during my next trip to MN
2-story bar, with an open roof for lawn bowling. The best part is that before you begin play, someone with a British accent explains the rules of lawn bowling. Then you're free to drink and bowl! Obviously there are only a few months during the late spring til early fall that the roof will be open until the snow arrives!
Dress Code: Attire is anywhere from casual to 'dress to impress'. This is a great place to start off your night.
There isn't a better spot in the world to have a pint of beer with friends. In the early summer, sit on the rooftop patio at night and look out over the city. The appetizers, especially, are excellent, and better than the real (British) thing.
If you have some extra cash, and want to try something new, there is a lawn-bowling green on the roof, with lessons available.
A british style pub, it's main attraction is it's outdoor lawn bowling on the roof. A great place to be in the summer, since it has a large outdoor patio looking out on the downtown. They also specialize in british beers and food.
Dress Code: Brit's tends to attract a "yuppier" crowd, who are generally better dressed.
