If you staying in downtown Minneapolis, Hell's Kitchen is a must. Come to think of it, it is a must wherever you are staying. Not only is the food great and the service excellent, the place is fun. Many things are homemade, e.g., peanut butter and jelly, ketchup, and hot chocolate with whipped cream. They have breakfast standards (that you may mix and match) but also unique items like toasted bread with bison sausage, crab cakes with a poached egg, wild rice porridge and a walleye BLT. Just remember...no whining, no swearing, no complaining, no surly attitudes, no stingy tipping, and no flak about any of the above. Wait, is this Hell's Kitchen or Heaven's Kitchen?
I went to Hell's Kitchen in 2006 but VT member, Goodfish, tells me in 2011 that they have relocated to 9th Street and Marquette Avenue, and now have expanded hours (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Kate assures me that the food is still as delicious. Just remember what the comment card on their home page says though.
Favorite Dish: The Mahnomin Porridge is wonderful. It has wild rice, dried blueberries, sweetened cranberries and roasted hazelhuts drizzled with warm maple syrup and cream. Something that delicious should not be good for you. Also, don't miss their Rosti Potatoes. They are freshly-grated potatoes with sweet cream butter, bacon pieces, sweet onions, chives and scallions.
Hell’s Kitchen is in a newly renovate historical building. The restaurant features art from locals that is available to buy. It is always busy and they do take reservations. On weekends the staff wears pajamas and you are welcome to also!
