Sea Salt Eatery: Oasis in the Park
This is a fun, casual little cafe in Minnehaha Park (see tip) - just steps from the Minnehaha Falls overlook - and a terrific place for lunch or an early dinner after a ramble through the park or along the bike/pedestrian paths along West or East River Parkways (see tip - Mississippi River Gorge Walk, Things to Do.) Open only from April until October, they specialize in fresh seafood ranging from fish baskets to po'boys to oysters on the half-shell - with cold beer and wine to wash it down. Order from the blackboard at the counter and grab a table in the sun - it's family and dog friendly and a good kick-back spot for all ages. Daily specials rotate according to season and availability.
Parking is nearby in an automated pay station lot.

Sea Salt: A Seafood Eatery: Great Choice for a Day in the Park
I didn't expect much at Sea Salt: a Seafood Eatery but fortunately they exceeded my expectations.
We had just finished a hike at Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis and were hungry for lunch when we saw this casual restaurant right in the park, near the waterfall. It's only open seasonally (April - October) and is the kind of place where you stand in line at a counter to order and are served on disposable plates. There is an inside dining area and also tables with big umbrellas over them for outside dining. It's a great choice if you want a casual meal in the park without packing a picnic.
Favorite Dish: I ordered fried fish with cole slaw and melon (see photo). The portion was generous and the food was tasty. It hit the spot for me.
The restaurant also offers fancier fare.

Sea Salt: Don't Miss The Fresh Seafood!
Did you know that Minneapolis has a gem of a seafood restaurant, operated only in summertime in the northwest corner of Minnehaha Park? At Sea Salt, the menu is updated daily, but always includes traditional favorites, including the simple but satisfying fish sandwich for only $5.95. This place is no secret for Twin Citizens who have made it into a remarkable popular and casual summer destination for the wonderful fruits of the sea.
Patrons stard in line - which typically takes between 15 and 20 minutes - to reach the front counter, where they order their selection and recieve a "number." When their order is prepared, a server brings the food out to them. What's quite impressive is the size of the seating area, which spills outdoors onto picnic tables overlooking the trees and greenspace of Minnehaha Park. (Sea Salt is open from April to October; there is also seating indoors for the cooler months of spring and fall.)
It was my friends on the Chowhound website who alerted me to the Sea Salt phenomenon. One possible issue for out-of-town patrons is parking, which could be a little challenging on warm summer nights. Interestingly, the restaurant has a licence to sell beer and wine.
