Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile? Well it's you girl, and you should know it. With each glance and every little movement you show it. Love is all around, no need to waste it. You can have a town, why don't you take it. You're gonna make it after all. You're gonna make it after all. For those from lands outside the U.S. and who don't know what I am on about with this tip--The Mary Tyler Moore Show is perhaps the best loved AMerican comedy show of all time. It was set in Minneapolis and had the best cast ever with the grumpy Lou Grant (Ed Asner), the staunch Murray Slaughter (Gavin MacLeod), the bumbling Ted Baxter (Ted Knight) and the girl next door, Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore). Often times, I am accused of being grumpier than Mr. Grant--I take that as a compliment. Leave a Comment

Along the Nicollet Mall that spans much of downtown Minneapolis there are a number of sculptural groupings. . This is one of a series of "rocks" -- some of which [as this one does] have smooth ledges for sitting. The young lady is taking advatage of it! You can see the farmers' market behind her. Peavey Plaza is a sunken, fountain-studded oasis just outside Orchestra Hall (Nicollet Mall - downtown) and is a prime spot for catching free concerts all summer long. Some of the events on the calendar this summer were Twin Cities Hot Summer Jazz Fest (where most of my pix were taken), Famous Dave's Blues Fest, Macy's Day of Music (a 24-hours-straight marathon with a mind-boggling variety of bands) and Alive after 5/Tunes at Noon concerts every weekday in June - a tradition for 22 years. The list goes on..... Anyway, all of the concerts are FREE and there are usually some food kiosks available for grabbing lunch or a snack. The only bummer is trying to get a handle on the schedule as it's a little scattered but when in doubt, City Pages (http://citypages.com) is usually the best source for music/theater/festival/gallery showings/special events, etc. I've also included the Orchestra Hall website - for driving directions - and the Downtown Council's website. Hot Summer Jazz is really fun - runs for a weekend at the end of June/beginning of July and usually has a great line-up. Tip: Brit's Pub is directly across the street and a good choice for a pint before or after the concerts. Nicollete Mall, a pedestrian street, is the place where things are happening in downtown Minneapolis. The "Mall" stretches for several blocks between Washington Avenue and South 13th Street. The street has very wide sidewalks and a two lane roadway on which only busses and taxis are allowed. Along the way are numerous shops, restaurants with outside dining, hotels, etc. Weather permitting, you may see street entertainers and vendors which help to create a festive atmosphere. In the 1100 block, Peavey Plaza provides a nice place to relax, with fountains and shade trees. On the beautiful spring day of our visit to Minneapolis the street was loaded with people. Street entertainers and vendors helped to create a festive atmosphere. It certainly seems to be the place to see and be seen in Minneapolis and no trip to the city would be complete without taking a stroll through Nicollete Mall, whether you're shopping, looking, or just stretching your legs. From May 1 - Oct. 31 on every Thursday, there is a Farmers Market along Nicollet Mall. Much of the produce sold are homegrown and organic. You can buy fresh vegitables, fruits, flowers and meats. Best time to go is around Noon or around 5:00 PM when many downtown workers flood onto Nicollet Mall either for a lunchtime stroll or after getting off work. The IDS Tower surpassed the Foshay Tower in 1971 -- and, counting its antennae, it is the tallest thing in Minnesota! . The collage is two views of the beautiful Crystal Court. Leave a Comment

Between the indoor sculpture at the Gaviidae Common [see shopping] and these birds on the mall itself you have to wonder.... Leave a Comment

Minneapolis has several miles of skyways and tunnels to help the natives avoid the winter cold. This photo-collage shows 2 -- one with a bird-sculpture-fountain and the other showing some flowers for sale in the Nicollet Farmers' Market -- most of the skyways are on or near the Nicollet Mall. Well, you might want to stay indoors in the wintertime! (Nicollet Mall) One great thing in the Twin Cities is that you don't have to go outside in the wintertime. Both cities' downtown buildings are linked by an intricate network of heated skyways. You can literally go anywhere downtown without stepping a foot outside! Leave a Comment

If there is mall out I will find it. This does not compare to the Mall of America but it is worth the visit if you are in the downtown area Leave a Comment
