    Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse, also called Nemzek Hall, is the largest building on the MSU Moorhead campus. This was the site for graduation exercises we attended on May 14. The facility is probably best known to most people as the venue for home basketball games played by the MSUM Dragons. The building contains 8 basketball courts, racquetball courts, wrestling room, aerobic fitness center, weight room, team room and sports information offices.

    The Dragon

    by Stephen-KarenConn Updated Jun 13, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

MSU Moorhead's Dragon was born in the fire that devastated Old Main, the school's central building, on Feb. 9, 1930. Legend has it that Flora Frick, a physical education professor at the time, came up with the school mascot when she saw the football team running out of a temporary dressing room below the campus heating plant. It was a cold morning, and when she saw the frosty exhalations of a serpentine line of stampeding football players, she exclaimed: "They look just like dragons!" The school adopted the Dragon the following spring by a vote of the student body.

    Learn About Norwegian Heritage

    by riorich55 Updated Jan 18, 2011

I had never been inside the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead until my last trip and even then I didn't have time to walk around the exhibits inside. If you are crossing into Moorhead from Fargo on 1st Street you will see the large tentlike canvass on your left side which holds the recreation of a Viking Ship.

The Hjemkomst Center has a number of Norwegian exhibits on the inside and a replica of the Hopperstad Stave Church on the outside.

You can walk the outside grounds for free and go into the gift shop inside also for free. If you want to spend more time you can visit the entire museum. Adults are $7, Seniors are $6, Youth are $5 and under 5 are free.

    Hours are Monday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday until 8:00 p.m.
    Sunday Noon to 5:00 p.m.
