It's amazing that the lighthouse survived Katrina while everything around it was destroyed. She is a wonderful beacon of strength and endurance.

    The marker reads:

Since its construction in 1848, this cast iron lighthouse has been the landmark for which Biloxi-bound vessels sail. Tended by the Younghans family, father, mother, and daughter, from late 1866 until 1929.

    Lighthouse Tours:
    Monday - Saturday
    900am-915am-930am

    Adults $5
    Children 6-12 $2

You have to be able to climb stairs, so wear good shoes and hang onto the handrails.

    After Katrina

The Biloxi Lighthouse was built in 1948 of cast iron.

It has two claims to fame:
It is the only lighthouse in the US in the middle of a four lane highway (US Hwy 90) and it had numerous female light keepers including a Maria Younghans who operated the light for 53 years.

Admission: $2 Adults, $1 Seniors and Student

The lighhouse survived Hurricane Katrina, but is now closed due to damage it sustained.

The lighthouse located on the beachfront, near the beach and city limits. The cast iron Biloxi Lighthouse was erected in 1848 and stands at 65 feet. It is the only lighthouse in the world that stands in the middle of a four-lane highway (Highway 90) and along the worlds longest man-made beach. The lighthouse is a symbol of Biloxi’s maritime history and its light is one of the most recognizable objects on the Mississippi Gulf Coast .
