Collins is a nice town of about 2700 residents located in the southern part of the state. Actor Gerald McRaney (Simon and Simon and Major Dad) was born here. Collins is the county seat of Covington County. Covington County was established in 1819 and was named for an army general who later became a congressman. The Covington County Courthouse was completed in 1907 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
