Columbia is a very pretty old town with a population of about 7000; located in Southern Mississippi. Columbia was formed in 1819, six years before Mississippi became a state and was named after Columbia, South Carolina where many of the town's settlers came from. Columbia was briefly the state capitol in 1821 and 1822. Columbia is the county seat of Marion County which was named after American Revolutionary War guerilla leader Francis Marion. I really like the Marion County Courthouse, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

There is a law enforcement memorial also located on the courthouse grounds. Seems like an unusually large number of deaths for a town this size.

There is a nice monument/memorial to area veterans who have served in the U.S. Military and especially those who paid the ultimate price. The memorial is located on the courthouse grounds.
