fenian's: irish pub
one draw back to downtown jackson is it's total lack of bars and nightlife. i assume there are some bars in the suburbs but since i was not familiar with the area i elected to stay in the downtown area after dark. near the old state capitol i did find a good replica irish pub named fenians. they had good pub fare and a good beer selection. if you are staying in downtown jackson this is a good place to grab a beer after work.
Dress Code: casual.

Hal & Mal's: Irish pub theme
Nice pub in the downtown district of Jackson. On St. Patrick's Day, it is ALWAYS packed to the rafters with drunken college kids. Keep in mind that parking during major events (i.e. St. Patrick's Day Parade, live music events, ect.) can be a pain.
The pub does have its own microbrew, so if you want to try something other than the usual watered-down domestic beers, give one their beers a try. Lunch prices are reasonable, but their sandwiches are the best value.
Dress Code: VERY casual dress code (just do not enter naked), you'll occasionally see some in business attire during lunch hours Mon - Fri (but pay no mind to that).
King Edward Bar: Nice Place to Have a Drink
Although the bar is billed as a place for the hip young crowd, they made us oldsters feel welcome there, too.
