    Riverfest: Great Music and Arts

    by TooTallFinn24 Updated Jun 24, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

if you are in Vicksburg the last week of April then attending Riverfest should be high on your list. For the last twenty seven years Vicksburg has hosted a knock out part of live music at the river. The event, which is also referred to as the River Fest Music and Arts Festival is held to celebrate the City's past and give recognition to old and new artists of all forms. Particular emphasis is on music celebrating the City's rich blues history.

The festival includes a free arts and crafts show at City Hall early on Saturday morning. During the day the streets of Vicksburg are filled with street performers, activities for children, food booths and sales by local merchants. The food is particularly sensational and features food from the local area. On Friday and Saturday evening music events are held from 6 pm to midnight. The cost of attending the music events this year was only $ 10.

The event itself is free. There is only a fee for the evening music acts on Friday and Saturday night.

The festival covers two days. We were first there less than two weeks before the event took place. However already the preparation for the event was noticeable. The City and the event organizers do a great job publicizing Riverfest. There was even information in the Jackson, Ms. papers about it.
