The rodeo started at sun set after the heat of the day was over. My best photos were of the opening ceremony. During the bucking broncos and bull riding competition the sun had gone down and my photos are a little blurred. In spite of bad pictures I had a good time watching the rodeo. There is not any night life in Bolivar, MO. This town is overseen by the Baptist University. There are no bars or nightclubs. What a boring town!!! This is not a place to have a good time. You would be better to stay north on 65 on the Lake of the Ozarks for a good time. Springfield is just south of Bolivar and has a great night life.Bolivar is not...more
Tracker boats are a good way to get around on the lakes and rivers of Missouri. You can see Tracker Bass boats at Bass Pro Shop in Springfield. The boats are manufactured in Bolivar at this factory in the photograph.
Highways 32 and 13 lead to Bolivar if you are travelling by car instead of boat..
The Thrifty Nickel is available free at places like gasoline stations. It is interesting to look at the paper and see what is for sale in the area. For example there is a gun for sale on the front page. What does that tell you about Bolivar? I also like to look at what prices land and automobiles are going for in an area.
Masters Public Use Area is on the shore of Stockton Lake about 10 miles north of Bolivar on highway 32. There are many picnic spots and a ramp to launch boats there. On a Winter day it is not very busy. I did not see a single other car there. My friend tells me even in Summer it is not over crowded.more
LePetite Gemme Prairie is valuable because it is one of last bits of undisturbed prairie land in Missouri. It is small but valuable for that reason. Most of this natural preserve consists of a grassy hill. I walked to top of the hill and saw a swooping harrier. Hope to return in warm weather when the grass is green and there are more birds about.more
