University of Missouri
The best and biggest school in the state. The University of Missouri was founded in 1839 in Columbia, Missouri, as the first public university west of the Mississippi River. It has continued to grow and expand. It's noted for it's School of Journalism. The school also has 3 other campuses, Rolla, Kansas City and St. Louis. There are evening program offered from the Columbia Campus in Jefferson City.
To experience the school, take a walk on campus. The area known as the 'Francis Quadrangle' is the historic core of the university and offers the most memorial views. Here are the 4 columns from the original University. The building burned in a fire and the columns were saved. It's a reminder of the link that the school and education play in life. On the south side is Jesse Hall. It's one of the older buildings on campus and the center of the schools administration. (Between 6th and 9th Streets, north of Conley Ave.)
Just to the east is Lowry Mall. It runs from 9th Street to Hitt Street. This is where I spent much of my time. My classes were to the north in Middlebush Hall and Ellis Library on the south side of the Mall. At the east end is the Memorial Union. During the day, this area is busy with students going and coming from class, the library and the Union, which is just south of the library.
I've included maps of these two areas as additional pictures.
