If you're going to Oktoberfest, it's best to get there via train or go with a group on a bus. St. Louis has special Amtrack trains, and I would bet that Kansas City does, too. Drinking and driving is a bad idea, especially on the curvy 2-lane highway.
You can walk around the town and find someone to drive you up to Stone Hill. I once rode with a group of people on a flatbed truck!

Hermann Off The Beaten Path

  • by Starlas Written Aug 23, 2004

About 1 hours or so from Jefferson City down Highway 94 is a small German community called Hermann. Every year 100's of people flock to this very small wine community to celebrate Mai-Fest and Oktober-Fest. It's a fun time.........lots of beer, wine and bratwurst.

Favorite thing: If ever you are in Hermann during October you have to experience the October Fest. It's a great time!! There are lots of things to do, everything from Wine Tasting to Antique Shopping. Mixed in there are several Beer Gardens and local Taverns that are full of people having a great time.

Fondest memory: Meeting new people and having a good time with a group of old and new friends at the beer garden

    Me.........at the Beer Garden

Favorite thing: Do the Duck Dance (otherwise known as the Chicken Dance.) This is at Stone Hill, the prettiest winery in Hermann (and the one with the most rules.)
