There are NO adjectives that can describe how great this place is.
Fred the baker is simply one of the best on the planet and that is not an understatment. He has doggedly trained and worked for years to develop the very finest bread avalible anywhere ON THE PLANET EARTH. In my humble opinion he has achived.
He makes a limited quanitity with total focus on quality. He uses old world methods and a traditional masonary oven.
Bread is only avalible Thursday through Saturday. When it is gone it is gone. You cannot just whip this bread up. Fred takes hours to create each round of baking.
I am really not kidding if you come to Kansas City and do not eat some of this bread you have just blown it.
Favorite Dish: It is all great BABY!!
Steaks are a main featured category, but the other items with veal and seafood are great also.
Favorite Dish: Entrees are $22-35 and al a carte. The veal oscar is one favorite, but also anything with a sauce included is worth the meal.
They place is a franchise, and we stopped by here to sample the fare. It was okay, but no great shakes. It is promoting fast and good, and has a lot of slangs and sayings on the wall to let you know they been around since 1983. This is not really a special place like I thought it would be, but a decent sandwich and subs.
Favorite Dish: I had the turkey/ham combo sandwich called a club, and Micky had a gourmet ham. The bread is very huge, so it fills you up. The food spills all over due to the large size of 4 inches high. Chips are available and pickles for an extra charge
The food is good at the location and they have a selection that pleases all that come. Specialty is chicken in various sizes and quantity. The other items includes large salads as a dinner menu, steaks of around 5 types and hamburger steak-no hamburgers. Steaks costs between $12-29 depending on the type and cut and size. Hamburger steak of 16 ounces is $11.95.
Favorite Dish: The chicken would be my reason for showing up here. I got the three-as in 3- chicken breasts. That comes with baked -extremely huge at nearly 1 1/2 pounds, green beans, and rolls and salad. That is all for $15.95. Two breasts are $12.95, and a half chicken is $11.95. This is very much a family style restaurant and been here for about 40 years. They got the food and service down pat.
I did the Sunday brunch that has lots of choices. The buffet of food gets placed on the bar top. They advertise a 50 item omlet bar! You fill out a slip of paper checking off the items you want and they bring it to your table.
People come here more for the atmosphere than for the food - as is often the case on the Plaza - but this is still a good place to pass a few hours. It's an excellent place to watch the world go-by: upper-class matrons from Mission Hills rub shoulders with high-power attorneys and creative types from the Art Institute. The salads are good, and some (but not all) of the desserts are spot-on.
First Watch is a chain, and it has the best brunch in all the city. It is a very casual atmosphere and reasonable prices, but the food is extraordinary. Beware of Sunday mornings after church, the lines can be very long!

Favorite Dish: their mashed potatoes are the best i've ever had when eating out. also the milkshakes... they raised the prices a few years ago pq they realised how good they were. i still buy them. you can get lots of different flavours.
i realise this is a pretty bad description of the food, but just trust me. go there and you'll see what i mean.

I was in Kansas City on 15 Oct 08. I love Korean food and one of my colleagues recommended Cho Ga. The food was delicious but the service was exactly as described in the Travel Yahoo reviews. The waiter was young and it's kind of a big place for one person to handle. I am also not so sure how motivated he was, but he eventually got to things after being asked. Examples included my tea being served lukewarm (even though brewed with a tea bag in an individual pot), and having to ask for the chili paste for the dol sot bibimbap. It seems to me that all this restaurant needs is a little more help for the server and then it would be an outstanding place to eat.
Favorite Dish: Between the two of us, we had three entrees and six side dishes. All were excellent! The entrees were dol sot bibimbap with tofu ($11.95), dduk mandoo gook (beef dumpling soup, $10.95) and vegetarian japchae ($12.95). The "chef's choice" sides were delicious also. They included cabbage and radish kimchi, fried zucchini, fish cake, marinated bean sprouts and a marinated radish dish.
Thomas has a great selection of unique dishes, featuring salads and sandwiches for lunch and "small plates" and various entrees for dinner. Everything I tried tasted great, our service was excellent, and the atmosphere was casual and refined at the same time - the kind of place where you'll fit in and feel perfectly comfortable whether you show up in a suit for cocktails or shorts and a t-shirt for a beer. If that's not enough, you'll be surprised how inexpensive everything is. Many restaurants in Kansas City serving similar food charge almost twice as much. I couldn't even begin to count the number of restaurants I've eaten at in Kansas City, but this is definitely one of the best ones.
"Michael Smith" is the eponymous restaurant of a celebrity chef who has been blazing a trail of glory across the heartland's dining firmament.
He opened this restaurant in a great location between the Crown Center District and the exciting new "Power and Light" Entertainment complex. The cuisine here sits comfortably as an example of a creative mind that is a little edgier and more original than the more "corporate" fare you are likely to fine at national chain restaurants, no matter how well run they are.
I like "creative" and original, and if you do too, chances are you will be at least stimulated here - and hopefully well fed.
I ate here in October 2007 with an out-of-town guest and two old Kansas City chums of mine who are experts on the local restaurant scene. I thought it was good but not great. I returned with my two local friends in May 2008, and this time we were all blown-away by the restaurant. The kitchen was operating with remarkable finesse, putting out apps and entrees that scaled the height of taste and deliciousness. The service was attentive, interested, and yet not "in your face." The server recommend a bottle of a perfect Chilean red that beautifully complemented our meals, so good that we ordered a second bottle to take us through dessert. Really, it was one of the best five meals I've had in the last five years - ANYWHERE.
i've always loved Middle Eastern and Greek food, so when I learned about a place within walking distance of my office I just had to try it. Habashi House is comprised of two businesses in the River Market: A restaurant and a grocery store. Kansas City isn't exactly known as being a hot spot for Middle Eastern Food, but I still had high hopes. Unfortunately I was a bit let down by the food. Don't get me wrong; it's not bad. But I think the best way to describe it is that it's basically the fast food version of Middle Eastern food. My meal tasted fine, and I would go back, but there's a Middle Eastern restaurant about 30 or 40 minutes away in Lawrence, Kansas (Aladdin Cafe) that in my opinion is quite a lot better. So overall I'd say Habashi House has average food and the prices were decent.
The Middle Eastern market next door was a very interesting experience. Browsing through it reminded me of a market in Istanbul or Doha, Qatar, especially the piles of colorful spices. If you enjoy cooking Middle Eastern food yourself, this would be a great place to pick up what you need. They also had Middle Eastern sweets, which are always delicious.
The original restaurant in the "Northland" at the intersection of North Vivion and Antioch Roads has the best hamburgers in KC. They grill the burgers with onions, on a well "seasoned" grill. Everything is made to order, fresh. They also have an extensive breakfast menu. They serve everything from pancakes to fresh sliced pies. It's truely a blast from the past. It is a real 50's diner opened back in 1954 and it will seat 50 comfortably, you have the optional booth or sitting at the counter. The chili some say is very good, It's a meaty chili with bean added as an option. They have several hot sauces by request. It has been a hot spot for after bar rushes, perfect greasy food to soak up that extra alcohol. But be warned, they aren't there to babysit, and more than once people have been "kicked" out. There isn't enough room for fights in the this nifty 50's diner. Well worth the trip.
Favorite Dish: Hamburger you have to try at least one. Similar to the white castle but larger. Onion rings are great, the french fries and cheese sticks are awsome. They also have a good biscut and gravy if you're interested in breakfast food. The pies are good also, freshly prepared.
Chez’ Elle is on Summit Street right across from the Fevere Bakery and the Blue Bird Café.
It is located in a somewhat funny building that looks like hotel. There are tables scattered around a sandwich chalkboard. Do not be put off as I was just go right in. Once inside you will be richly rewarded.
It is bright and colorful. There are rooms of differing sizes and colors that will give you a choice of the atmosphere. The tables and chairs are well spaced and comfortable.
The kitchen is open and clean. You can watch the cooks at work. All dishes are made to order so you can leave out the meat if you are a veg head.
There are paper menus that you can sit down and look over or you can read the chalkboard. In either case you order at the front counter.
Favorite Dish: There are a wide range of things to choose from.
The scones are nice with a coffee.
