The food is okay to good. They steaks are the main attraction and they have about 6 kinds to offer. Seafood is another specialty, with a pork chop and a chicken plate also. Prices average range is $30-45, even though you could get a chicken breast for around $20.

Favorite Dish: The KC strip is very good and of high quality. A lot of appetizers are also good, and more economical to get out for a lesser price. They feature a happy hour type lower end of these for $8-15.

It has good aged steaks, and have been working on perfecting that since 1938. The steaks used to come out on a hot plate in their own "juices" like in laying in rendered fat. The taste was more flavorful, but the sign of the times, now still has the hot plate, but not the fat. Prices of steak are $20 for 5 oz filet to $41 for 30 oz porterhouse. A T bone of 20 oz is $30. The back up is serving chicken, broasted. It is good and competes with R.C.'s across the street. Prices for that is $13-17 for 3 breasts high end. To go along with the meal is a salad, toasted garlic bread, and pickled beets.

Favorite Dish: Steaks are the specialty and that is what they serve about 90% of the time to patrons. I like the sirloin, and it fills the palate

The meats are very good and the presentation of the place is great. The architecture and waiting area are elegant. Service is good and the food is plentiful. Price for a lunch is $25 and dinner is $42. Wines are also available, and they want you to try some. It is lined up along the walls.

Favorite Dish: All of it if I could just eat more than 3 pounds of meat.

A tradition for 50 years

The Golden Ox is one of those that out of towners feel they need to try. It is well advertised. the ambiance is not like it was 20 years ago, but they hang on and the steaks are still aged well. The Hereford House became an expanded multi location, and the quality has not kept up, while the prices did increase. The original location on 10th street in downtown KC is a bit seedy, but the interior is one that you need to visit just to see what it used to be like. They pour the grease from the steak on your plate for flavor. (It is now closed as of Jan 2009 due to fire-may reopen in 2010??)
Alexanders is good and a well presented meal. Cost may be about $30 each. J. Gilberts is where you get the better aged steak, and the price reflects that. It may cost $40-50 a person without drinks.

They all are too highly overrated. Food is okay, but the prices are not really worth the effort to try and enjoy the restaurants. Specialty is steaks. There are 5 steak restaurants now around town and one upscale called Pierpoints at Union Station. If you want a treat, go to the one downtown. The area is kind of "seedy" and topless entertainment next door. The decor is still the same as form the 1960's and dark and feels dingy inside. The treat part is if you order a steak, they bring it out in a sizzling platter that has about 1/2 inch of rendered fat it lays in. In the old days the "extra" taste to dip the meat in the fat seemed okay. Now, well--
The original owners gave out around 20 years ago and now things have changed. Prices are higher by a lot and ambiance does not make up for that.

Favorite Dish: The Kansas City Strip is probably the best taste for the price; around $38. Other steaks include the Filet up to $43 and T-bone for the large at $38. That is all inclusive fare prices. Lunch can range form $10-25.

Benton's is known for our fine beef and fresh seafood. This romantic restaurant is located on top of the Westin Crown Center hotel and has beautiful views of the city. The service is great and the food fabulous!

This is the epitomy of fine dining. Ruth's Chris is fancy, but not so much that there is a dress code. Elegant. I went on New Year's Eve of 2004 and I've craved that meal ever since!

Favorite Dish: I shared a Porterhouse for two. The steak is has this butter sauce that sizzles around it. It literally melts in your mouth. There are one-pound baked potatoes. And they have a delicious creme brulee

Ruth's Chris: The Best Restaurant on the Plaza

When you pull up to the restaurant, the valet attendants are there opening your door and greeting you. Once you walk through the doors the atmosphere and vibe just blows you away. It was our first time and it was absolutely magnificent. The entire restaurant is decorated with mahogany wood, dim lights and great art work. The servers there are very knowledgable. Our servers name was Heather and I would recommend her. Thanks Clay for an awesome night!!

Favorite Dish: This restaurant is ala carte, so be careful not to over order like we didn. The filets are to die for, you can cut them with a butter knife. I had the salmon with lumb crab meat and it melted in my mouth. If you have room for dessert, you have to try the Apple Crumb Tart, it's pure heaven.

'The Ox' has been a Kanas City landmark for more than 50 years and is located in Kansas City's historic livestock yards. All steaks are aged and cut on the premises, then broiled over a hickory charcoal flame for mouthwatering results!

This restaurant has been in business since 1957 and specializes in beef - great steaks, great atmosphere and exceptional service.

Favorite Dish: Big Steaks! Actually I loved the mashed potatoes just as much as my steak! And the desserts were out of this world - luckily I was with a large group so I was able to sample alot of good stuff!
