Kansas City has traditionally been a strong college basketball town, having hosted more NCAA national championship basketball games than any other city. There are four major universities in the area fielding basketball teams, including my alma mater, the University of Kansas, a perennial national power in the sport. None of these teams make their home at Kemper, but the arena is the scene of many tournaments and special matches such as that pictured between Kansas U. and the University of Oregon.
Kemper Arena is due to be replaced in 2007 by a state of the art new venue located in the heart of downtown KC. Other sports at Kemper include indoor soccer, minor league hockey, and rodeo.
