Country Club Plaza at Christmas by Camille_W It's a big outdoor mall. It's well themed to look like a Mediterranean town, but it's still just a collection of shops. But it is so much fun to walk through. There are statues in hidden corners. There are mosaic tiles on the walls. There are comfortable benches. There are fountains everywhere. There are some great stores and good restaurants. There are also interesting old apartment buildings around the Plaza, built in it's heyday back in the 20s and 30s. (I live in one of them!) Brush Creek runs along one edge of the plaza, offering a great place for a morning jog or a twilight walk. There is usually live music in the summer time. And at Christmas, the Plaza is dressed up in Christmas lights and carolers roam the sidewalks. It's a bit gaudy, but it is a pleasant place to spend an afternoon shopping and to talk a walk through in the evening.
Look up! Look at the architectural details all around you. Go to the information office and get a map of the artwork in the Plaza and track it all down - there are some great statues and fountains that were either imported from Italy or copied from the originals.
The Nelson-Atkins museum is only a few blocks away - well worth the visit if you need to shake the dust of the Plaza off your feet! Leave a Comment

Worlds of Fun by Camille_W Yeah, it's just a cheesy amusement park. But it's fun, and if you're driving across country and need a break for a day, it's a great place to blow off some steam.
Get to the gate early, if you can, if you want to beat the crowds. Admission after 4:00 pm is half the price! If you just want to surround yourself with the great sounds of an amusement park, this is a great deal. Leave a Comment
