My mother and I have visited Powell Gardens for the last 13 years or so, we started visiting when it was just getting started. We've watched it change and grow so much over the years; the visitor center, the chapel, the water gardens, the lake. I went to college just 20 miles from Powell Gardens in Warrensburg, Missouri, at CMSU.
Powell Gardens is very peaceful and beautiful. There are wonderfully colored flowers and plants, a water garden, a rose garden, a visitor's center with a cafe and a chapel.

During many weekends and festivals, there is live, free entertainment on the grounds. On this occasion, Kansas City's exciting Paul Meissner Puppets took the stage, enchanting children, parents, and grandparents with their rendition of an Indian story from America's southwest.

A gentle stream flows through this Missouri woodland setting. This area comes alive in April and May when the azaleas, rhododendrens, dogwood and red bud trees are in bloom. In June, the hydrangeas and hostas are most plentiful.

At the time of this visit, I was not feeling too cordial toward bunnies of any kind, having sacrificed all too many plants in my own flower gardens to satisfy the appetites of these not-so-lovable creatures. However, I found these to be incapable of destroying plants, therefore a little more lovable. We enjoyed watching little kids crawl over these sculptures.

The visitor's center patio offers a variety of activities and displays - especially on weekends. My wife, Nancy, also found a serene, shady spot to rest her eyes.

Located inside the visitor's center. Great place to cool off after walking around outside on a hot summer day.
