Kirksville Things to Do

  • Thousand Hills State Park

This state park features a good-sized lake with paddle boat and canoe rentals and a swimming area. It also has nice picinic areas for studying, playing frisbee/football/etc. with friends, or just a nice place for a senic stroll.

  • Truman State University Campus

Hard to miss in the small town, the University Campus is gorgeous especially in the fall. All the buildings are red brick which contrast the bright green of the trees (which there happens to be one of every indigenous missouri tree on the campus).

  • Going to 1000 Hills State Park...

Going to 1000 Hills State Park for a fun excursion! At 1000 Hills there is a great lake surrounded by wonderful wooded landscape. You can go on a hiking trail around the lake - all day trip - have a picnic or bar-b-que, rent a canoe or paddleboat, visit the 1,000 year-old Native American petroglyphs site, eat at their own restaurant (great food!),...

Kirksville Restaurants

  • Coffee House that's "just right"

This place is so hip and unpretentious, so very comfortable, with its colors, furnishings and casualness. You order at the counter. Menu choices are neatly framed on the wall. Latest baked goodies are right in front of you. Yum! There are soups, sandwiches, wraps, smoothies, etc.; all are reasonably priced. Try this place, when you are in the...

  • Tops of Downtown Choices, My Guess

This corner establishment is very new on the scene, more of a restaurant than a brew pub. In fact, I didn't know they made their own beer until I visited the web site, at home later! When I asked about the beers on draft, my friendly waiter "sold" me on trying O'Fallon Gold. I don't recall him mentioning their own label. I don't want to get him in...

  • Yummy Yummy Chicken Salad

This is a relatively new restaurant in Kirksville (compared to say, Pancake City, which has been there since the beginning of time), and I think it's a really fun place to eat. Nice atmosphere, good food, and, if you sit in the bar section, you can play games and sit by the fire! It's really fun! Bit expensive for students, so have the family take...

  • Paglia's Pizza

A nice pizza place off the square, Paglia's is a fun place to eat with friends. The Ronza's are excellent!! like stuffed, rolled pizzas... very very good. And In my day they had baby ronza specials on fridays for only $.1.

  • Pancake City

One of the only all night restaurants in Kirksville, Pancake city is full of students desperately craming for a test... local residents hanging out.. a must-do for the whole Kirksville experience. Chicken Sticks and Grub Fries...

  • The 24-hour student classic!

Every college student goes to Pancake City at least a few times in their student careers--to study or eat after a night out getting plastered, whatever. It's not really a great place to eat, but since it's open all night, its the ONLY place to eat;) Make sure to visit, it's the only way to get the whole Kirksville experience:)My favorite Pancake...

Kirksville Nightlife

  • Karaoke Thursdays

Thursday nights at the Spike are great fun. This bar has a dance floor and of course karaoke... It's a great first-timer karaoke joint.. especially after sampling some of their fine and tasty beverages.

  • Karaoke Night!

Interesting mix of locals and college students, this bar has karaoke night on Thursdays and can be fun if you bring your own crowd along:) Downtown Kirksville, of course, so you can walk there from almost anywhere!

  • All you can drink Thursday nights

This is a local bar in Kirksville, located in the downtown area. I hear it just got redone and the inside is supposed to look great. They have $5 all you can drink night on Thursday, so it's a great place to go if you're a broke college student looking to get plastered:) Not that anyone I know would ever do that.

Kirksville Shopping

Walmart: The only place to shop...literally.

    by reon80 Written Nov 27, 2003

The only real place to shop in Kirksville is Walmart. Cheap prices, open 24 hours a day, and they have everything you could possibly want. Sure, there are some small stores around town and on the square for specialty items. And there's a HyVee for food....but really, everyone goes to Walmart and you'll learn to depend on it if you live in Kirksville for any length of time:)

Kirksville Off The Beaten Path

  • Thousand Hills State Park

Please, see my tips on this park. It is only three miles from center of town. Lots to room to swim, picnic, use your boat and hike! There is a really large lake, that I would need a boat to see all of it. Here are two photos of the lake.

  • Thousand Hills State Park

I love this park because its really convenient (right off Highway 6 in Kirksville--opposite direction from Walmart off of 63). You can take a picnic and lay by the water and go hiking or's just a nice way to relax! They also have an incredibly overpriced restaurant and you can rent canoes or paddleboats by the hour for relatively...
