It's an old town with a lot of attractive old Victorian homes. The downtown is kind of a mixed bag, as is the case with most towns in the midwest - but the beautiful old Saline County Courthouse is magnificent. I do have a couple of photos of that to show, but not much else.

We could see that we were coming to the town square and saw a place to park next to a colorful little park. Taking advantage of the opportunity, we pulled over, and discovered that the park was a garden dedicated to and containing a memorial to Jim, the Wonder Dog. I had heard of this creature before, so suggested we look around there. What a pleasant little garden! And we were astounded to read what an intelligent canine this Jim was! Rather than try to explain here, I'll simply give you the link to Jim's site: www.jimthewonderdog.com

For anyone not familiar with small town Missouri, we have a lot of town squares. The traffic travel one way around our square. And in the middle is our Courthouse. It really is spectacular. They keep the court yard really nice all year round and if you are lucky enough to be in town on fair weekends, you'll find open air flea markets running on the grounds.

It's right on the town square facing the grand old courthouse. It's a touch of nostalgia, a mom and pop ice cream joint that makes you feel glad you're there. And a wonderful place to get two scoops (or one).
Favorite Dish: Ice cream! What else!

It's kind of a hole in the wall place right off the square in town. Homey, comfortable and affordable. They have great food and even entertainment if you go on the right night. Nice people, great service and good prices.
Favorite Dish: My favorite is their seafood. And you get a lot for the price. Good value.

Our police department is always on the lookout for drug runners and other criminal factors coming through our town. Our sherriff, Wally George will come down hard on anyone caught bringing drugs into our town.

Going north out of Marshall on Highway 41, go a few miles out until you see a sign pointing west saying "Van Meter". A great park. Well cared for and a must see if you are in the area. Lots of camping, places for hiking and a lake for fishing.
