Tourist Traps

JB Hooks Restaurant

Jb Hooks Restaurant
2260 Bagnell Dam Blvd.
Lake Ozark, MO 65049

Boy, if there is a prototype for a tourist trap, this restaurant is it. First, the billing of "best view of the lake." Well, it depends on where you sit. Mostly you have a good view of the bridge. But the biggest dissapointment about this restaurant is the outrageous, I mean OUTRAGEOUS prices. We're talking entrees that start at $28 and go up to $73 for the surf & turf. Average entree price is about $35. Drinks are equally as expensive, and forget about small prices on the kids' menu - how about $21 for a kid's size filet?

Granted, there are some restaurants around the country and abroad where prices such as this are warranted, and I've eaten in more than a few. When you're paying this kind of money, you expect spactacular food, outstanding service and a meal that will be memorable. Sometimes, you decide to pay for excellence. Not here. Oh, you pay, but waht you get is mediocre, passable and not at all memorable. The food is good but nothing special. The service is good to very good, but again, not outstanding. I'd say when you're in Missouri save your money for when you can go to Tony's or Busch's Grove in St. Louis and get what you pay for.

Unique Suggestions: Simply don't go unless you feel like being ripped off.

Favorite thing: You must stay at the Marriott's Tan-Tar-A Resort Goldf Club and Spa. There is so much to do, besides golfing. Whether for forte is golf, boating, horseback riding, bowling or racquet games, this resort is a must. You will have a great time. The keyword here is 'fun' and much of it!!

Fondest memory: So much to do and yet so close to nature. I love wandering throught this resort and marveling at its beauty.
