On my husband, Allan's, recommendation, Jill and I ate lunch in Saint Charles at Lewis & Clark's American Restaurant and Public House. We thank Allan for his fine suggestion.
As we were walking up to the restaurant, a horde of people were getting off of a Tourist Bus and literally running to get there first. Instead of waiting to be seated, as the sign indicates, they rushed in and took seats. It was the best thing that could happen because we were then escourted to the non-smoking section on the second floor with windows overlooking picturesque Main Street.
Even though Lewis & Clark's is located in an historic building, it has a contemporary menu and decor.
Our young waiter was very personable, efficient, and polite.
Favorite Dish: Jill and I both ordered WHITE CHILI (made with turkey or chicken and the broth plus white beans and hot pepper and chili powder.) It was fabulous. I had Cheese Casadea that was also very good plus lemonade.
The WHITE CHILI would have been enough because it was a large bowl and so delicious.
Great food at affordable prices! Also look for their sister restaurant Trailhead Brewing Co. located just down the street on Main at Boonslick.
Favorite Dish: The while chili is delicious! But that is only one item...everything is delicious and the service is very good.
Lovely place for a pleasant light lunch on a spring day - with indoor seating for those thunderstormy days as well. Attentive and cheerful service - I had ice tea, and the server did excellent duty in keeping my glass full! Right on S. Main Street in the historic center.
We had the Spicy Creole Gumbo with a House Salad. The Gumbo was spicy and good.
This combo came with some hot bread. My cousin who took us to this place had the French Dip, a sandwich with sliced prime rib and cheese. All of this was very good. Our server was attentive and helpful. We were there when it opened at 11AM so we sat inside, but the outside area was getting busy when we left. If we go again, we want to try sitting outside, it's very pleasant.
You can't go wrong picking Lewis & Clark for your meal when you're in St. Charles.
Favorite Dish: I enjoyed the Spicy Creole Gumbo - it was flavorful, creamy and yet light.
One evening we had a fantastic meal. We won a little money at the casino and decided to spend a bit on a nice meal. We ate at a St. Charles Vintage House Restaurant and Wine Garden. We ate out of doors on patio. Beautiful night. Great food. Wonderful service. I suggest you try this place.
A popular place for visitors to St. Charles, this coffee shop also seems to attract many bicyclists who need a "jolt of joe" before setting out to pedal the KATY trail.
