Sainte Genevieve Winery: High Quality Wine in a Small Missouri Village
In the French Colonial Historical District in Ste. Genevieve stands a large red brick home that serves as both a Bed and Breakfast (upstairs) and a Wine Shop (downstairs). IThe home was established in 1909, and the Winery was established in 1984; it is the oldest winery in the area.
The Hoffmeister family started this winery; it encompasses 14 acres of vineyards in the county.
The home has a good-sized front porch with some tables for drinking out there in warm weather. Inside, the first room is for tasting of the wine. Throughout some of the other rooms, you will find a full line of premium and traditional wines and wine related gifts. They also offer local sausage and cheeses.
The shop is open daily from 11a.m. until 5 p.m.
The upstairs Bed & Breakfast is called appropriately CHATEAU STE. GENEVIEVE BED & BREAKFAST. There are two rooms, both with Jacuzzi tubs. Nonsmoking, no children or pets.
What to buy: The selection of wines is mostly white and fruit wines; however, there are two traditional Reds--Bolduc (Semi-Dry Red wine) and Concord (Sweet Red Wine).
They also offer 14 different Fruit Wines (some are seasonal).
Six whites are offered, and one Blush is available.
We purchased a bottle of Valle Rhine (semi Sweet White Wine) that reminds me of a good Reisling.
What to pay: Expect to pay about $10.00 per bottle.
