There is a small airport in Springfield. I flew out of there in November of 2000. It is not large but is clean and efficient and had connection to Dallas where I transferred planes.
I usually drive to Springfield from Kansas so I can use my car to get around. If you get a map of Springfield from any hotel it will show you closest route to Bass Pro Shop. Do not follow the signs to Bass Pro shop if you can avoid it. The city of Springfield posts the signs so you drive through the long route and see all the down town businesses.

However you get there (I drove down I-44), the show is at the fairgrounds, but you can get quite a cornucopia of cars to look at from late afternoon to late evening by just hanging around the local motel parking lots. You'll see people lining the streets on Saturday night to watch the cool cars cruising all evening.
in a hammered hot rod, of course!

Springfield is surrounded by Highways.
Remember these and the center lines and you got it made.
To the north, at the 2800 North block, you have Interstate-44. It angles down and covers some of the west side.
To the east, at the 3100 block east, you will find U.S. 65.
To the south, at about the 3800 block south, you will find James River Freeway, or 60. It curves up to the west, and after new construction, now connects with Interstate 44.
If you will notice, aside from the James River Freeway being 3800 block south, all highways are around the 3000 block from the center axis'.
The center axis's of Springfield are roughly; Chestnut expressway, running east to west, connecting to west part of I-44, and U.S.65.
And, Campbell sreet, running north and south. Campbell, north of Chestnut expressway, is one way, going north, till you hit Commercial street, then it breaks up into a small two way streets. Some not connected.
Campbell street, south of Chestnut Expressway, is still a one way going north, until Grand street. Then its a two way, two lane until Sunshine street. Then it goes all the way south, crosses James River Freeway, and turns into Highway160.

Springfield has a very capable and efficient fleet of buses to serve the city and intercity routes. Buses run from 6 am until midnight 365 days a year, with fares no higher than 50 cents for general passenger traffic. The service includes special curb-to-curb transit for disabled passengers (called the "paratransit" service), but this must be arranged at least one day in advance (fares are $1.50 per ride).

For the size of town it's is, there's nothing to do there! Very boring place. It reminds me of a suburb of a big city where you have to drive miles and miles for something to do. The people are okay but only entertainment mainly is for drinkers. If you don't fish or hunt you have nothing to do there. I have always wonder how it grown to the size it is without having some kind entertainment.

Around the city many streets get backed up with local traffic. A main artery being Hwy 65 leads to Branson and can get quite busy in summer. There seems to be constant road work also that impedes the flow of traffic. One example is Hwy 13 at US 44. This intersection has been under various constructions for at least three years that I am aware of.
