    Prairie Dogs!

Visit the Greyciff Prairie Dog Town. There were prairie dogs everywhere, and they are fun to watch. They were squeaking and chirping, and then running around. They post sentries, and when the alarm sounds, all the others run into their holes. Prairie dogs have a complex language—I read that they have a different warning call for each kind of predator.

Horse riding. The horses are born and raised on the ranch and are American Quarter Horses. The Van Cleves can organise an hour, a day or a longer ride into the Crazy Mountains.

In the photo you can just see a small herd eating their lunch in the shadow of the mountains.

This is just a mild warning tip:

Big Timber nestles against a main railroad and has a level crossing at the NW end of McLeod Street, thus every passing freight train has to announce its arrival and these can be quite frequent into the early hours of the morning.

During the winter this isn't a problem, just keep the windows closed and if you stay here during the summer get a place with air-con or a room facing SE! Or buy earplugs!

    Gotta freight train runnin' through.........
