Q Cuisine: Asian Fusion--here in Billings, MT!

Abby's legendary spinach salad & hot/sour soup

What a wonderful surprise to find this restaurant here in Billings! Located on the block next to the Sheraton Hotel, Q Restaurant is as hip as any restaurant to be found in L.A., San Francisco, Seattle, etc. The decor was a mixture of modern details with a baroque type feeling as well. The high ceilings were covered with embossed aluminum panels; modern art from local artists adorn the walls; dark woods were mixed with periwinkle blue and aluminum accents which made for a very interesting and attractive setting.

Favorite Dish: The menu was very eclectic, featuring Asian fusion specialties. We literally ordered a feast: coconut tiger shrimp in a roasted mango sauce; a "bag" (literally a brown paper bag) or parmesan/cornmeal encrusted calamari tossed with sundried tomatoes; tempura vegetables; "Abby's legendary strawberry spinach salad"--a terrific salad with caramelized almonds, fresh sweet slices of strawberry, Stilton bleu cheese and a paprika-sesame dressing; pork loin/cashew risotto; black tiger prawns tossed with ginger/garlic soba noodles; and two soups that were to die for (hot and sour shrimp soup w/ bok choy, and a chicken chowder.)

We ate so much that we didn't leave room for dessert...but I'm sure they were just as delicious as the other items we had. Caution: go with a big appetite--despite most people's perception of Asian Fusion (usually means artfully presented, but small, colorful portions of food), the portions at Q were quite generous. Dinner for three (or in this case, "feast for three!"), including alcohol totaled only about $80. The same meal would have cost at least twice that amount in Los Angeles or San Francisco.

The drinks are outstanding, and next door to Q is a Martini Bar/nightclub.

A slice of Asian fusion heaven...in Montana's biggest little city!

Restaurants in Billings vary - but by far the best ones are the steak houses. Montana Avenue is a recently renovated street. Some of the best places to eat are located along this stretch of road. The nightlife along Montana Avenue is also some of the best to be had in the city.
