The town hotel & school room (now the info centre) are still standing, along with the general store and many houses and cabins. You can walk along the miner's trail close to where the gold mine was. You can't actually get to the old gold mine - it is privately owned and well-fenced.
Admission to the town is by donation. The footpath isn't really wheelchair accessible, but there is a road where you can drive from the parking lot down to the town area, in the event that you have someone in your group in a wheelchair. The road is for wheelchair access only - don't try parking there cause you're just too lazy to walk down the foot path!
I would allow a couple of hours to visit the town.
Visitors should note that the road to Garnet is not recommended for trailers or motorhomes.

There is a nice view point along the road to Garnet. There is room to park a couple of vehicles and there is a picnic table here. The views from here are incredible - you feel like you can see all the way to Missoula.
