It can get very windy in the valley, where the airport and city are located. The day I took off (1/2008), the pilot said that you could do chinups on the windsock at the end of the runway. Judging by my drive to the airport, getting pushed around on the road, I believed his joke. It made the takeoff rough, but not bad enough to shake us around in our seats, just vibrations. Montanan's do not have any professional sports teams to brag about. But they do support and love their Grizzly football. The football games attract over 25,000 people (half the population of Missoula). The atmosphere is a gigantic party. The tailgate parties begin about 2 hours before kickoff. There are many beer gardens and people enjoying themselves adjacent to the stadium. Watching the football game can be more entertainment than a professional sports event in a big U.S. city. Montanan's love to party and support their team. After the game, the fans flock to the downtown bars accross the river and enjoy drinks late into the night. This is a great opportunity to see why people love Missoula and Montana Grizzly football. Leave a Comment Directions: The University of Montana is located directly below the big "M" on mount Sentinal. It is easy walking distance from downtown Missoula.
