  • Look up!

When outside the city limits especially - look up and see the stars! Unless it is cloud covered you will never see so many stars. it is nothing like in the cities. The canvas of the sky reaches from one end of the horizon to the other and the number of stars you can see is amazing. Sometimes you can even get a look at the Northern Lights.

  • Watch Sports and Drink in Billings

This is a sports bar with a casual atmosphere. Several big screen TVs showing sports shows. A decent selection of beers and they served a good strong rum and coke. This place is much better for drinking than eating. I saw sports T-shirts, cowboy attire, and biker attire.

  • Whitefish

Whitefish, Montana has become a bit of a celebrity center with some Hollywooders having bought ranches to escape the southern California crush of people. It's a real old west town with great old saloons. The Palace and the Great Northern are both atmospheric old places with very friendly staff and a fine selection of local beers. Try the beers from...

  • The night life in Bozeman is...

The night life in Bozeman is dead! Even though there is a college in the town. The only places we found to drink had a lonely Draw Poker machine in the corner and two old cowboys at the black leather bar! Dirty boots and a cowboy hat.

  • The 'city's' (population...

The 'city's' (population 20,000+) have typical dance clubs etc. Smaller town have Bars, just don't expect to see a mechanical bull. Pool Tables abound in them. Try 'Shooting some stick' sometime, but beware playing for money or worse yet, drinks. Wear anything too flashy in the bars and you might wake up with a black eye. Keep it subtle. Blue...

  • The Missoula Club

It is a down and dirty local pub with a jar of pickled gizards on the bar and poker machines in the back. Here you will find the best burger west of the Mississippi. Nothing fancy. Jeans and boots will suffice.

  • Missoulla is a college town...

Missoulla is a college town so there are plenty of bars and casinos. Including the utterly hilarious 'Fred's' at the truck stop at the intersection of I-90 and Hwy 200 for all your nude dancing and alchohol needs. Check out the shirts they have for sale with the pig and sheep on them. Pretty funny...and somewhat true outside of Missoulla. In...

  • The 'Stube on Big Mountain and...

The 'Stube on Big Mountain and the Great Northern in Whitefish. The 'Stube is a great place to hang after a day of skiing. It has air hockey, intriguing paraphenalia all over the walls and doesn't mind having beer spilled on the floor. The Great Northern down the Mountain in Whitefish is a bit bigger and heats up later in the evening. And the...

  • The Northern Bar, located in...

The Northern Bar, located in Whitefish, MT.This is one of about only 3 or 4 places in the Flathead Valley where you can go for live music and dancing. It is more for the younger college crowd. you can wear whatever you want...usually casual

  • Ennis Main Street with 3...

Ennis Main Street with 3 authentic western bars.Ennis is a wonderful western town and the bars each have a unique atmosphere. Locals, fishermen, tourists, ranchers all mingle. Jeans are the uniform of Montana. Cowboy hats and boots are optional, but they should be work-worn if you wear them.

  • The New Atlas Bar in Columbus,...

The New Atlas Bar in Columbus, Montana is worth a stop. The bar has been in business since before Prohibition, which coincidentally, looks like the last time the 60+ animal mounts in there were cleaned. We have been there about 5 times, and there were rarely ever more than about 3 other people there. That is what makes it great, you have a cool old...

  • Branding Iron:Annual Testicle...

Branding Iron:Annual Testicle Festival: fried testicles served, live band, ideal to freak out on the Gitterbug.PS: dentist needed for people lacking front teeth!! Cowboyhot, Wrangler cowboy jeans, no teeth, hanging belly

  • Any riverbank with a...

Any riverbank with a relatively flat surface, shady trees, and reasonable lack of mud makes for the perfect campsite along Montana's wild and scenic river, assuming of course that the spot isn't private property. Bureau of Land Management maps detail which areas are accessible for camping, and which aren't. Imagine waking up before dawn, looking up...
