It's mountain weather so pack like it! The weather can change in a hurry so be prepared. If you are going out in the fall the weather can go from 60F to 30F in a matter of hours. It can also go from sunshine to blizzard! Don't get stranded in the mountains with a t-shirt, it could mean your life. If you're hiking or skiing/snowboarding in the 'back country' it wouldn't be dumb to take a little first-aid kit with. Plus a beacon if you are in avalanche areas.

Even in the summer...the mornings and late evenings are cool...so have some jacket or sweatshirt to add to your bag for here. Hiking boots are common ...even when you are not hiking. Sandals are common in the summer. Also, sports shoes are worn everyday as normal dress. Always have something to protect when it rains. The rain here is as cold as icewater. The city has some paved trails if you know where to find them for skating/rollerblading

Bring clothes for the previous Montana season of the current. In other words, if it's Spring, bring Winter clothes too. Last year we had 12' of snow fall on June 13th! Always have a jacket handy, Umbrellas are NEVER used by locals(never needed). Family Travel Go low-tech, digital isn't well supported here yet. Although if asked nicely, business will usually let you re-charge using there outlets. Be considerate about it.

If you go during late Spring or late Summer, be sure and take some warm clothing. We were there the week of 9/10/01, and we encountered snow. You'll want to be sure and take both cameras (still and video). If possible, try to take a camera that has either wide angle and/or telephoto lens.

Boots and warm clothes are a must in winter. Summer can be cool with temps in the 40 F range at night yet 90 F during the day. You will have to be ready for anything as the weather can turn on a dime especially in the higher country. I have seen plenty of snowfall in June up in the hills. Winter is cold or colder averaging 25 F above 0 during the day and around 0 at night. When out of the big cities things can be a bit more expensive and store hours can be pretty short compared to what you may be used to. 24 hour Wal-Marts are a rarity in this state. Take all you can. There are some of the most breath taking views in the world here. Bring top notch camping gear. You'll thank yourself when you are 50 miles from the nearest paved road. Be concious of safety concerns with Bears and Mountain Lions when out and about. I had a 10M encounter with a mountain lion a couple years back when I...

Pack enough gear to be able to rough it in the wilderness. Also, while it can get hot during the day, the weather can change and it does get chilly in the evening, so bring a light jacket. Bring appropriate gear for hiking and camping and various sorts of weather. Hmmm...I would bring the major things with me, but you can get shmpoo or deodorant or toothpaste at the little stores before you enter a park, other than that, Montana has all the ameneties that any other American state has to offer! You can purchase most equipment here. All appropriate gear.

Layers of clothes, weather can change fast. We have had snow in June and 70 degree in Jamuary. Basic First Aid Kit. Bug repellent, sunscreen. Bring a smile, leave the additude at home, an open mind and a taste for adventure. Keep the common sense. We will not try to change you if you don;t try to change us.

bring a good set of hiking boots. There is plenty to see off the road way. Camera with plenty of film. My cousin shot a roll a day when the sun was out. I like to pack a telephoto lens (about 500mm) with a tri-pod for the long distance shots. You will see plenty of wild life (goats, elk, and mule deer). Watch closelly and you may find a Moose. I like the tent method. You seem to get more out of mother nature this way. You can also go deeper into the forests (were the roads end).

Montana in the winter is cold, and it really cools off at nights in the higher mountain areas, so be sure to pack warm clothes. You definatly have to bring a camera.
