Luggage and bags: They're delightfully unpretentious (except for the sorority girls at the U; and they don't count). If you're really strapped, a Hefty bag works just fine.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: They don't do trendy here, so feel free to represent as a throw-back to Eisenhower's America. It's all good.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: That completely depends on what your poison is. Remember, it's a college town, so you can get booze almost anywhere--just don't drink it as you teeter down the street. They really hate that kind of thing.
Photo Equipment: A disposible works just fine. In fact, if you draw, a sketch pad might be fun--the sunsets especially during harvest time. The grain dust makes the sky glow pink and orange just at twilight.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Forget the beach thing completely. Camping gear is fine, but the bugs are fairly annoying in the summer.
Miscellaneous: Just don't forget what I said about polyester.
