Smack in the middle of the historic Haymarket district downtown, The Mill takes the old brick warehouse look and goes with it. Mismatched furniture, random bits that look like they could come from a junkyard and just a general "worn" look.
A popular hangout for university students at night (UNL is a few blocks away), business people and mothers with strollers during the day, and lots of the older crowd in the early weekend mornings. There are people from everywhere here.

In truth, it depends on where I am in my cycle. If I have PMS, Lee's Chicken is great, artery-clogging fun. It's not too far from Pioneer's Park (ask anybody for directions). Valentino's is the famous pizza joint, but the best and only location to visit is on Holdredge by East Campus. Afterwards, load up on ice cream the way it used to taste before those evil corporate entities made it all bland. Just saunter over to the Ag College (across the street from Val's) and enjoy a cone, or buy a half-gallon to scarf down like a pig on your way home.

My favorite restaurant is called Shogun. It's a Japanese restaurant, complete with sushi, and a tepenyaki grill. (That means it's cooked right in front of you, and with plenty of flare.)
Another great restaurant is called Crane River. They make lots of excellent vegetarian items, so if you're looking for something hearty but not too heavy, this is your place.
Shogun has a wonderful atmosphere. The cooks are the best part, because while half of their goal is to cook your food, the other is to entertain you.
Crane River is known for it's beers, and it's all brewed in the building.
Shogun: The sushi is good, but Nebraska produces such good beef you can't pass up having steak.

Excellent service, nice ambience, very nice food presentation.
Limited on-site parking but a parking garage across the street.
It is a jewel in Lincoln and well worth the visit. The first visit will bring you back.

OK, so it isn't New Orleans, but I enjoyed Buzzard Billy's nonetheless on several occasions. The restaurant is located in the Haymarket area where a number of fine restaurants are located. As the name suggests, the decor/ambience is a combination of bar and grill. A very popular happy hour location, as well as whenever the Huskers have a home game, Buzzard Billy's is open for lunch and dinner with a wide array of cajun/creole appetizers and entrees.
They have a cheap beer special by which I am not only talking inexpensive but, shall we say, bottom shelf brews. Seems to be very popular.
They also have gringo food for those who desire standard fare.
Appetizers: Gator Fingers, and Armadillo Eggs
Soups: Seafood Gumbo, or the Grilled Chicken & Andouille Sausage Gumbo
Entrees: Crawfish Fettucine Alfredeaux (or shrimp), the Mardi Gras Pasta, the Cajun Combo, Crawfish Etoufee, and the Voodoo Tuna
